As announced before, we have been experimenting with the new acoustic echo canceller, AEC3, in WebRTC for some time. We have analyzed the performance thoroughly, and found it to be satisfactory. Internal testing shows that echo is 5 times less prevalent with AEC3 than with the legacy AEC, and transparency to near-end talker is improved. Therefore, we have now fully launched the AEC3 across all Chrome channels on MacOS, Windows, Linux, and ChromeOS.

For a limited time, site owners will be able to override AEC3 and force the legacy solution to be used, as was described before. This is controlled by an Origin Trial, which by design is time limited. Once the Origin Trial is no longer active, the option to override will be gone.

As usual, if you find any quality issues with the new AEC, please report them to us.

Thanks!

Hello Henrik,

Myself and my team has run some Unit Tests on static wave files as well as on a Audio call with WebRTC AEC3 and Speex.
AEC3 performs so much better than speex. Attached are some experiment results. Hope it helps !
