Hi Chris,

Your Power Barrow looks great. The cable shouldn't be a problem as you can buy cables and the various different ends to make something up. I have found you can't cut Bowden cables with wire cutters as the cable will fray and become a right mess. What I do is clamp a nice sharp cold chisel in the vice put the cable on the chisel and hit the cable with a hammer. Then you get a nice clean cut.

If you want any info on the Petter AA1 I have a manual for that engine as I have one on my Benford diesel mixer.

Cheers

Jim

Hi Chris.

Good to see the pictures of your powerbarrow. I have a similar machine but with a 4 hp Briggs & Stratton engine. A picture can be seen on the BarrOmix Major page of oilyhands website, taken when the machine had just been rebuilt & repainted.
The engine serial no. of ours dates it to 1971. We have owned it since the early 80`s and apart from a period of about 5 years when it was awaiting repair it has been in regular use. There are a few small differences in the design of yours which give the impression of being a slightly older model.
A word of warning about the brakes. Our braking system appears to be in perfect working order from the hand lever through the cable, linkage, shoes & drums but has always been totally ineffective. I have operated a few others over the years & have yet to find one with working brakes. If you manage to get your brakes working I would be interested to know how you did it.

Thanks for the information about the brakes  I am at the moment trying to find a belt for it,the one that is on it at the moment is really old, perished and slips quite badly, it is a 17 x 1215 Li B48 belt however I have no idea if it was something that was put on there because it was available or if it is the correct one, yours has a different engine so may have a different sized belt I guess. I managed to pick up a 17x1200 which was the largest my local motor factors could supply but there is no way it will fit .I can get the 17x1215 online do you have any idea what the size of yours is obviously without stripping it down to look.

I have a set of filters  on order for the Petter  which runs very nicely but has the most revolting air filter I have ever seen

All the best

Chris

Hi Chris.

I`m afraid I can`t help with the size of the belt, mine is also old, perished & filthy & has long since lost any markings that would give a clue to its` original size. The pulley arrangement looks slightly different, in the photo your centre pulley looks to be on a fixed axle whereas mine is on a swing arm with a light spring to give degree of tension to the belt.
Somewhere I have what came as a "handbook", from memory it`s a couple of badly typed A4 pages, but I don`t recall any  parts list. I will do my best to find it & e mail it to you.

Regards

Tim

Sorry to be so slow in replying I thought I had already posted a a reply but it doesn't seem to have appeared.

Not to worry about the belt  I have managed to source a new one the same size as the old one which fits fine the pulley arrangement is a tension wheel but wasn't very clear in the picture,
a copy of your manual would be very much appreciated, thank you.

The engine wouldn't start the other day so I syphoned the diesel out it looked like the bottom of  a cafetiere. I've  taken the tank off and taken the horrible fuel filter off and hosed the tank out I am just waiting for it to dry out before I reassemble it all with a new filter and give it another go.

The revolting air filter just by being there was still doing some good, if the filter had been removed by the previous owner as often the case and barrows = dust etc. the engine may well be seeing other problems even more so if it were petrol, so thats a 'revolting piece' of good luck

Yes Indeed however it's not all good news. Following cleaning the coffee like dregs from the fuel tank it showed a leak I filled that with some Belzona 1111 and changed the filter but now it wont start I have checked fuel flow and the self bleeding mechanism is OK, the pump spits some fuel from the high pressure piping but if I put the injector on then nothing sprays or even dribbles out of the injector I am not sure if the pump is failing to produce the necessary pressure to open the injector or if the injector is faulty, I am a little worried that my attempts at starting when the fuel filter was blocked by putting a bit of diesel in the cold primer which would allow it to run for a few seconds might have run the pump dry. I don't know but something isn't right I am guessing I will have to remove both parts and have them tested at a diesel service place.

I purchased one of these without an engine I installed a 7hp Honda engine and a gokart centrafugle clutch, the belt I found that would fit is a A39 or a38 depending on the drive pulley size

Thanks for the belt information as you may notice my post  on these dated back to 2013 however I still have the barrow and sorted out its problems I got a new brake cable and treated the rusty tank with Por 15 and also ended up getting the fuel pump cleaned up it runs well now though I have to confess it is about a year since it was last put to work I must get it out and run it up and take it for a spin.
