Does anyone have any thoughts on using peanut butter in horse treats?
I made some treats over the weekend using rolled barley, beet pulp,
flax, eggs, flour, and cinnamon. They came out okay, really they
tasted horrible, but I've gotten about 50% horse approval and 100% dog
approval. I have read various opinions on peanut butter, but a
definite no on the nuts themselves.

Thanks,
Sheila

I have 3 IR critters so peanut butter would be no-no for us....too high in  fat and sugar...
I make many different flavored cookies with flax as a base and flavorings (like banana, apple & cranberry) from Nature's Flavors or herbs like peppermint, anise seed, rosehips, etc
As far as nuts go sometimes I top each cookie with a blanched raw peanut or a dried cranberry......

I know some people make "electrolyte" cookies for feeding their endurance horses on the trail. There's also a recipe somewhere on the EC list - I'll look for both when I have time. I'm pretty sure they're all "no bake".
