Grey-headed Bulbul

Sunday was a good day for bulbuls in my college campus with five species - the Red-whiskered, White-browed, Red-vented, Yellow-browed, and the Grey-headed - showing themselves.

The Grey-headed Bulbul has only been seen twice before by me in Manipal in 7 months - and I presume it is indeed a very uncommon species outside of the ghats. So I was especially pleased to have (accidentally) flushed what seemed to be over 15 of these endemic birds from a tree after I followed their calls to a bushy area next to a small dirt road.

Taken in Manipal, Karnataka, on 21.02.2010. Apologies for the horrible shot, though.

Well, I can vouch for that. Even watching this bird is enough, such a skulker it is. Last feb, I was tracking down this bird in Goa and I could not even see one properly. It kept calling all the time, eluding me. What you do is trace all the Yellow-browed Bulbuls and you might accidentally flush these birds, just as you have mentioned.
I like this shot, open and against the sky, not really something how one would expect this bird. :)
