HI All,
Picture of this prinia is taken in Central Park, Salt Lake, Kolkata, India.
Sorry for giving the link, as this image is not taken by me.
This image has been taken by Krisnendu Sar this year 29th Oct.
The cofusion regarding the image is, Krisnendu has identified this bird as Rufous-fronted but the identification is not conclusive.
I took this in discussion because ,it could have been a very important record for calcutta,if the bird is indeed a 'Rufous-fronted prinia'. According to list available in kolkata-bird website (
http://www.kolkatabirds.com/kolkatacity.htm) ,this species is yet to record in this region.
Will you please take the trouble to visit this link once and help in identify the bird?
Here is Krinendu's observation from location
"I have consulted the book - 'A Field Guide to Birds of India' by Krys Kazmierczak. According to that book the photograph does not resemble Rufous-fronted Prinia only on one count - the tail tips are not whitish. All the other aspects tally. On the other hand this bird does not match Plain Prinia on a number of counts - (i) This bird was not waving its tail at all, while a Plain Prinia waves it constantly; (ii) The dark streak present in the supercilium of a Plain Prinia is prominently absent here. It is true that Rufous-fronted Prinia are found in isolated pockets in this region and are much more infrequent than Plain Prinia."
