"A consistently appealing quality of a Bronx Opera production is the engaging sense of community that pervades the performance - without, I hasten to say, any hint of slighting high professional standards."
- New York Magazine

Voices of the Bronx Opera
Walton Theatre
March 28, 2009
7:30 P.M.

Members of the Bronx Opera Company will be performing a variety of vocal selections at the Walton Theatre on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.  The first half of the concert will feature six to seven singers performing familiar operatic pieces interspersed with stories of the operas.  During the second half of the show, the same wonderful voices will perform songs from Broadway shows, Gilbert and Sullivan, and other popular sources.  The singers will be accompanied by a cellist and a pianist.

The Bronx Opera was founded by Michael Spierman in 1967.  The group performs two operas a year at Lehman College’s Lovinger Theatre in the Bronx, in addition to doing other Showcase Concerts in the area, for example, at Frost Valley near Kingston in Sullivan County.  Many of its singers have gone on to perform at opera houses around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera House.  The New York Times described the Bronx Opera as “consistently first-rate.”

It is appropriate that the Bronx Opera Company will be performing at the Walton Theatre, their first performance in Delaware County, since the theatre was once known as the Walton Opera House.  Members of the group will also be in several local area schools on Friday to perform and talk with students and school chorus members.

This promises to be a very special evening with a chance for the audience to mingle with the artists following the concert.  Tickets for the Bronx Opera performance at the Walton Theatre on March 28 are available at the door or at the following locations:

Delhi: Parker House
Downsville: Pepacton Natural Foods and Catskill Country Market
