The rejection of Sephardic Judaism is a truly perplexing Neo-Con issue, as the Alt-Right Trumpists, led by Murray and Hazony and approved by Weiss, are devoted to Westoxification, seeing a perpetual “war” on Western culture by the unwashed Others.
Now, Western culture is quite a complex thing, depending on which angle you approach it from.
In both Jewish and Christian History there is a profound antipathy to Greece and Rome, empires that colonized the land of Israel, and which sought to impose their paganism on the Jewish people.
Here is how Weiss describes the benighted racist Murray in her post:

It is unclear whether the West “created” these freedoms, or whether different cultures – like the Hebrew Bible and Qur’an, which are not technically part of the “West,” integrated certain ideas and values into the Imperial culture of slavery and colonialism.
And we know well that the adoption of Christianity into the Western Imperial system only led to oppression and violence of the non-White peoples in a truly genocidal frenzy.
It is a matter that entered the C-Span program in the discussion with Murray and Hazony, where the latter called the former an “Imperialist,” leading to some palpable awkwardness.

That is a pretty extensive list, but it is a good way to review the many vile names that I have cited in the SHU, names that represent the triumph of Trumpworld Alt-Right Fascism.
Paradoxically, we have Ashkenazim who reject Sephardic Cosmopolitanism and its Religious Humanism. These are Ashkenazim, including The Tikvah Fund as we look carefully at the work of Weiss’ rabbi, Meir Soloveichik with his Wyschogrodian disdain for Maimonides, who deny any external influences on Judaism such as scientism and philosophical rationalism.
Douglas Murray’s intimate relationship to Yoram Hazony and Bari Weiss exposes the many internal contradictions in Tikvahworld, which espouses an ethnocentric Jewish exclusivism, while at the same time extolling the most reactionary elements of Western Imperialism and its brutal regime against cultural pluralism and tolerance of the Other.
The NatCon movement, led by reactionaries like Murray and Hazony, is tied to the Fascist racism of Viktor Orban and parroted by Donald Trump and his Seditionist minions.

So, while the complex internal dialogue of the West continues to evolve and change, the Westoxified reactionaries seek a return to the past rooted in an atavism that seeks to exclude those who – pace Murray – do not write Symphonies.

Those who continue to revolt against Western Imperialism and its brutal aggression throughout the centuries, embodied in Rome’s destruction of the Jerusalem Temple and in the Spanish Inquisition, as well as chattel slavery in the US and the violent Jim Crow Apartheid terror system, hardly paragons of “Liberal” virtue, see in Murray, Hazony, and Weiss enemies of progress and the ability to expand our socio-cultural horizons to create pluralistic multi-ethnic and multi-cultural societies against the White Supremacist Eurocentric racism.
We can profitably point here to the 1930 pro-Confederate propaganda anthology I’ll Take My Stand: The South and the Agrarian Tradition, where Southern Literary Critic John Crowe Ransom makes the linkage explicit:
The South is unique on this continent for having founded and defended a culture which was according to the European standards of culture; and the European principles had better look to the South if they are to be perpetuated in this country.
Indeed, as I read Ransom’s truly deplorable racist essay “Reconstructed but Unregenerate,” I could not help but think of Hazony’s comment in the C-Span program with Murray that advised Alt-Right NatCon Trumpists to seek “more friendly” areas of America – like the Confederate South lauded in I’ll Take My Stand – that would provide a more hospitable home for their atavistic racism and religious radicalism.
In her excellent introduction to the 2006 edition of the book, Susan Donaldson sums it up well:
To the white southerners who made up the Agrarian circle for a brief time, the southern past did indeed appear to offer an oasis of order, tradition, and stability countering the national obsession with progress, expansion, and transformation, and most stable of all appeared to be [as Ransom states:] “such an antiquity as the old southern gentleman and his lady, and their scorn for the dollar-chasers.
Steve Bannon could not have said it better.
Shockingly, as is the case with all the “12 Southerners” who contributed to the book, Ransom minimized the harshness and criminality of Slavery in a way that would have made the most diehard Lost Causer proud:
Slavery was a feature monstrous enough in theory, but, more often than not, humane in practice…
We have now seen a frightening resurgence of such Lost Cause sentiment, where Slavery and Jim Crow terror are not really factors in the criminality of the South and its Seditious Secession from the Union, but where the “noble” Agrarian culture, with its Heideggerian-Nazi primitivistic overtones, becomes the much-needed foil for industrial progress, science, and rationality.
It would make sense to connect this Confederate Blood and Soil nationalism to the Zionist movement which also sought to turn Jews into farmers in the Agrarian manner.
There are many Intersectional connections in the NatCon movement that unites racists like Murray, Hazony, and Weiss in a Trumpist context where excoriating Liberalism is the prime desideratum. Indeed, the NatCon movement embodies, like Lost Cause Confederacy apologia, the illiberal, anti-democratic nativism that permeates the Bannon-Miller mindset in a resolutely European Fascist modality:
