Hello everyone,

I just finished installing dataverse, and when I published the dataset, I got the following message.
" could not be published due to a failure to register, or update the Global Identifier for the dataset or one of the files in it. Contact support if this continues to happen  "

Can I publish some works without a DOI on Dataverse?

Hi Alex,

Hmm, my first thought is that if you're using Dataverse 6.4 and DataCite, you might be hitting the bug we described at https://groups.google.com/g/dataverse-community/c/zlRGJtu3x4g/m/GtVZ26uaBQAJ

No, you don't have to use DOIs. Permalinks are a good choice if you're ok relying on your DNS. Dataverse also supports Handles. These days you can even have a mix of Persistent ID (PID) providers. Please see https://guides.dataverse.org/en/6.4/installation/config.html#persistent-identifiers-and-publishing-datasets

I hope this helps!

Phil

thank you Philip!

I'm using dataverse 6.0, can I disable dataverse using datacite? or I have to upgrade to 6.4 first, then install the bug-fix patch?
