Dear Dataverse enthusiasts,

There is a recently discovered bug in Dataverse 6.4 that can prevent registering new DataCite DOIs and publication of datasets when Related Publication metadata has been entered and a value has been selected for the new Relation Type child field. Only Dataverse instances using DataCite are affected (or individual datasets using DataCite for instances using more than one PID provider). There are simple work-arounds and applying one of them will allow publication to proceed. The underlying bug has also been fixed and the fix will be included in v6.5. When the fix is merged, a patched warfile will also be available from https://github.com/donsizemore/dataverse_backports/releases

Work-arounds:

  • User-level - remove the value for Relation Type in any Related Publication entries in the metadata. This will result in the default “IsSupplementTo” relationship being used.
  • Admin-level: Edit the citation.properties file in your deployed Dataverse instance to remove the spaces in the values for the controlledvocabulary.relationtype.* entries and restart Payara. Note that when using internationalization, the English versions of these terms, without spaces, must be used in all of the language variants of the citation.properties file.

Thanks for the information about the fix. We applied it and we noticed in our testing that there is a space missing between the end of the citation and the doi. I've attached two screenshots to show the difference between our production citation (v. 6.2) and our test environment (v. 6.4). We also noticed the space is missing on Harvard datasets as well. Could there be a fix made to include this space in version 6.5?
Thanks for your help,
Meghan

Hi Meghan,

That missing space definitely does look like a bug. Would you be willing to open an issue at https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues ?

Thanks,

Phil
