Hi all I'm trying to see what could be the reason why this hdd is doing this, when i power it on it clicks 2 times, then it spins down, i was checking on other forums  and people say it could be the TVS chip, heads or preamp, my question is how exactly i know what it is before opening the drive. I know the DIY risk i don't mind loosing the data on this HDD i just want to learn how to fix this type of issues thanks.

Ok excellent thank you for that reply, so everything is on the heads or preamp then. Should i be thinking on getting a donor drive to do the head swap? or is there anything else i can verify before doing that.

No. I'm really interested in taking that course that's why I'm saving money for that cause i know is not cheap, but is on my future plans
So it could be PCB or Firmware, hmmm i can hot swap the PCB but i don't have any firmware tools. Let's see what i can do.

Thanks for reply

without any firmware tools to work on and diagnose the drive your options are limited to removing the controller board and cleaning the contacts and trying that. I am not sure how you can perform a successful head swap without proper tools either ? I guess if this is just a drive to experiment on and not "customer data" then you have one to "learn" on.

What tool did you end up using for the firmware?

Do you have a link or name of the company? I ask because I have a
samsung that I think has firmware problems but I only have the HD
Doctor tools and they don;'t have a samsung one.

K.
