Hi everyone,

I am looking for some help identifying the screw head type and the appropriate screwdriver for a small Hitachi HTC426030G7CE00 (zif connection) hard disk drive (it’s from a hand held Sony DVR).  The cover screw over the headstack appears to be either a very small Tri-wing or a Torx tri-lobe.  Has anyone seen this drive before and know what screwdriver head I need to get the cover off? I’ve looked on line and can’t find a match.

Thanks in advance,

Todd

What you are looking at is called a "tri wing" screw which come in two variations. One that you have and the other where the lines extend out from a small triangle.

Google for tri-Wing screwdriver gives lots of hits. Seems the nintendo wii uses these so a lot of companies sell them. Just be sure to order the right one.

Harbor freight sells a set of 100 security bits for 9.99

Give that a shot!

Thanks Karlo,

I have that set from Harbor Freight (my new favorite store) and the tri-wing is way too large. I should have put something for scale in the photo. This is an extremely small head and like a 00 or 000 size but I have not found anything to fit it.

Still looking…

Todd,

Try this place: sells the 000 and probably the 00 as well. Looks like the 100 piece kit from HF only has sizes 1-5.
