Curious if anyone who has ant suggestions of a tool kit of sorts to
start recovering deleted chat messages on pc's phone sim cards etc.

I've been through Scotts training but have little hands on training as
circumstances require I care for an aging Father now.

I am getting lots of requests from friends to recover chat history and
the like from suspected cheating significant others.

I bought this kit

Digital Forensic Investigation Kit PRO

It is FLAKY AT BEST...I get better results cracking a windows password
with various Linux tools than whats included here.

Yea I got took in my opinion. But am disputiong the charges on grounds
of the quality of Goods and Services.

Anyone have an opinion of this kit. It seems like a toy to me compared
to things I have done with open source Linux Devices.

Could anyone point me in a bettter direction or website that leans
toward hands on in field recovery of the seedier things people do on
their devices and computers ?

for iPhone tech there is a relatively new company out there selling idevice and apple forensics software, Katana Forensics, http://katanaforensics.com/. phenomenal stuff. for cellular/mobile we use cellbrite, not the best there are other solutions but…its what we have.

Rhett,

For the kind of work you have described I use Internet Evidence Finder, by JAD Software. It has been one of the best I have used for chat, e-mail and social networking evidence. If you know the account passwords it pulls everything including deleted things. If you don't know the password it still pulls an amazing amount of information.

Cheers,

Jim Cornell

Thanks Jim,

They have changed the name it seems

(PLEASE NOTE: Social Networking Sherlock was formerly Internet
Evidence Finder (IEF) Home Edition) per their website.

I ran the demo on a personal machine that I had used Facebook on
months ago and didnt get any hits......just hammers into my head even
more about how tough this business is. I assume my old facebook chat /
email had been written over.

I will found and will try http://www.cacheback.ca/default.asp?tabno=4
tomorrow. Pricey and just mentions Facebook chat. I shot them an
enquirey about msn , yahoo etc and am waiting for a reply.

They have a demo and I may need to set up a test macine to try it out
on. I'm so over IM and facebook that I havent used them in forever :)

Does anyone remember the good old days when your phone wasnt blowing
up with text after text.....hour after hour ?
