What brand and board number is this?

Sorry I missed that it was WD. If the board number is 004-0B36131 it is a Hitachi/WD drive and to my understanding. PC3000 can not work with these yet.

I have written tools to analyse these ROMs. Can you upload the dumps?

Desolder it and read it in your programmer. You do have a programmer, don't you?

Take care. I believe these are 1.8V components. Don't use a cheap 3.3V programmer.

first, I think that this programmer needs an atapter for 1.8v
second it does not need to fit anywhere
you can solder wires to make it fit (I'm not sure, but I think there is an atapter for that chip)

I have a wd 8tb hitachi
with no drive it comes ready and ids

image.png

I have another matching one
but the rom wont verify
verify rom finds errors at different addresses around 55% through
re-reread -re-verify cant get it to verify

Using xgecu tl866 II plus programmer
The drive spins up and sounds good with the alien board - but wont come ready with alien board

it has 1 1mb rom

This is my setup
28pin tsop adapter
chip sits on first 8 pins
I read all my chips with this

The chip clip sucks.
Rarely can I get a good read with the chip clip

I bought pogo pins and printed the 3d adapter - from open source
I cant get it to work
but I clipped my chip clip to the pogopin adapter
and held it by hand
might work if I actually soldered it up....

Is this the same drive in an earlier thread some time last year?? Do you still need the data? AFAIR the repair was relatively easy using my tool.

yes its the same drive
I can upload the dumps
I need to figure out how to tell the rom programmer to slow down and try reading the flash slower

Hi

Is this a good way to read ? pin order is correct . If this setup is ok, what need to do in the software to read the data from the chip because the chip model does not exist in the software.

If that is the TL886 programmer, which I think it is, it can work with 1.8v chips. The voltage is set when you select the chip ID.

that surface mount chip will work in the tsop adapter

you must have an adapter that this will fit in...

also

you can just solder the chip down  thats what the pads are for...

Hi

One of the chip seems damaged, I have successfully read working chip and attached, with this working chip drive can initiate and read ID but no sector access. Any way to access sector with this chip ?

Is this a WD80EDAZ-11TA3A0?

According to the manual, there is no data loss protection on power loss, so the second "ROM" doesn't appear to be an "NVcache". Instead I suspect that it may be a backup for the primary ROM, possibly so that the drive can recover from a bad firmware update.

Your ROM structure differs from the other examples I've seen, so I will need to write another tool to parse it.

I notice that its size is 0x200200, so I'm wondering where those additional 0x200 bytes come from.

The MX25U1632F has an 8Kbit secured OTP (one time programmable) area -- 4Kbit for the factory and 4Kbit for the customer.

I wonder if this is going to become a new complication.
