Dear group members

I was confused to distinguish between impact and effects . I saw an explanation and I want to share with you. Please share your views and is this a right difference.

Impact vs Effect

Impact and Effect are two words that are often confused when it comes to their meanings. The word impact is used in the sense of ‘influence’. On the other hand the word ‘effect’ is used in the sense of ‘result’. This is the main difference between the two words impact and effect.

Observe the two sentences

1. The incident has a great impact on his behavior.

2. The sound system has a good effect.

In the first sentence the word ‘impact’ is used in the sense of ‘influence’. It only means ‘the incident has a great influence on his behavior’. In the second sentence the word ‘effect’ is used in the sense of ‘result’. The sentence would mean ‘the sound system produces a great result’.

Dear Anubha,

Both are,  generally, similar concept.  But specifically, impact is used for experimental research (Before and after of any act). Any other, lets wait for other view point.

I agree with Pooja and I too feel Impact is more suitable in Experimental studies.
However I had discussions on this issue with some senior professors and they were of the opinion that both are the same and denotes the relationship between 2 var(s).

Me too have the same confusion and I got both answers by some experts, though mostly senior professors in psychology and education said that impact word should be used only in experimental studies.
