Respected Sir and Group members,

I have a query about KMO value tested for factor analysis.

I developed a questionnaire on emotional labor based on various previous studies, the questionnaire measured the causes and consequences of the emotional labor. As it was a test study the usable sample was 82. Then to determine the factors factor analysis was used, but the KMO value came out to be 0.433 (less than min acceptable limit of 0.5), though the variance explained was about 76%.

I tried to find the root cause of low KMO value, one came out to be low sample size.

I request all of you to kindly suggest me any reading which can help me to know other reason of the low value also are there any means that can help me in increasing my KMO value.

Thanks & Regards
Pooja Sharma

82 sample size not so low .....pilot study always done on 50 or more sample size and to check reliability and KMO values its good enough but no doubt ur KMO value very less....well how many statements u have taken in questionnaire?

Thumb rule is take sample size as 5-6 times of number of statements.

Low inter item correlation could be the reason for low KMO value but it mainly depends on Sample Size to Items ratio, increase ur sample size if it below 5.
