A request for each of you

Original post : https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/alt.os.development/nvGbmY74C-4

To my fellow "Usenet group"ies:

I come before you today with a request for each of you. I ask
you to give it an ear and ponder it in your heart. Consider it
for a time each day and think about what it means to the baseline
fundamental views we hold in our lives.

-----
My request is that you consider what this means to your self-
image: You were created. You do have a purpose. You were not
an accident of random chance in this universe. You were, instead,
specifically and purposefully hand-crafted by God, hand-placed
into this world where you are, with a purpose to have a real im-
pact upon this world. To further realize that within the creation
of your existence, the one creating you had a real purpose in do
doing. God created you with a goal of certain things He wants you
to do in this world, for example.

Think about this idea: That you were created, that you do have a
real purpose, and that you will go on after you leave this world,
and that you do have a choice today regarding how you will live
your life, and that the warning given you by your very creator is
that there is a real enemy here in this world, responsible for all
that we see wrong here, who seeks to mislead you, trick you, trap
you, and ultimately destroy your soul by leading you away from God,
but if you will give God an ear, and stop hardening your heart
toward Him, that He will guide you not only to safety in this world,
but to the fullest, richest prosperity in Him.

Think about this. Read it a few times. Make sure you get a clear
understanding: You were created specifically by God. You have a
real purpose, and there are two paths before you: one leading to
forgiveness for the wrong you've done, to be a part of God's plan
for your life, one that keeps you unforgiven in the wrong you've
done and is leading away from God and God's plan for your life.

-----
God created you for greatness. He loves you. He will lead and
guide and protect and save you from all evil. But He also honors
you too much to violate His greatest gift to you: your volition.
He will not violate your free will to choose. But look into Him
and see how He's revealed Himself through His Son. The Bible
gives us a view of God that explains things in a way which really
resonates on the inside if you're willing to receive it. But if
you harden your heart, it will always only be a book of laughable
tales and fantasies.

The choice is yours, but the truth speaks to you. You were God's
creation. You were made special. You do have a purpose. And
you will go on after you leave this world. God has a plan for you
and will save you from everything bad, and give you a real and
secure future that dwells in fullest, richest prosperity for you,
His beloved and held dear, most special creation.

Thank you,

He is attacking me. He's contacted a local Muslim group with my
name, deliberately inciting them, trying to get them to retaliate
against me:

https://groups.google.com/d/msg/alt.os.development/lr7c-7kNUxo/qbycC3QUAAAJ

He's sent death threats to me and my family. He posted death threats
on my GitHub account, which got his account deleted. He claims to
have lost lots of source code as a result, and has been escalating
his attacks against me into now involving third parties.

If someone is making death threats to you, tell the police. Don't tell
us - there is nothing anyone here can do. We don't know who this person
is, we don't care, and we don't need to be informed repeatedly about his
posts. No one really distinguishes between religious waffle from the
real you, and religious waffle from your stalker - the posts are equally
annoying.

I am very much against impersonation on the net - it is fraud, and it is
IMHO worse than many other kinds of abuses (including relentless
religious posts). I am even more against death threats or bothering
someone's family. But there is /nothing/ I or anyone else can do to
help you with that.

The same could be said about this followup, but I'm hoping (perhaps
futilely) to remind others not to reply to off-topic posts.

David knows that I have his private emails sent to me going directly
to my trash folder. If he wishes to contact me, his only recourse
to contact me is here, where I might see his post on Google Groups.

I don't agree - it was not just for Rick (if it had been, I would not
have bothered with a post or an email). For most off-topic postings, I
fully appreciate your point. But there are some kinds of abuse where I
think it is important for people in a community to stand up and say it
will not be tolerated. And that needs to be said in public, in the
community - not just in private emails.

There is very little I or any of us can do about the kind of abuse Rick
has been suffering here - about the only think we /can/ do is say that
it is not right. No matter how much annoyance and irritation he has
caused people here and in other groups, no matter how much he has
insulted people (certainly me), no matter how much he has damaged this
newsgroup community - /no one/ deserves death threats or having their
family pestered.

I won't need to say this again, or add more to the thread - but I hope
you can understand my position here (and why I wanted to post both my
first post, and this one, to the group rather than as email).

HOW VERY INTERESTING! Rick sends messages he doesn't want to see... into a trash folder. Well, let me just remind Rick, anyone who reads Usenet through Google Groups (and that's a lot of people) CAN'T route YOUR unwanted posts to a trash folder. There isn't one.

Rick has a technological solution to an annoying problem, and he uses it. Meanwhile, Rick has no compunction about annoying others who don't have access to that same technological solution. That's hypocritical.

I can't tell you the number of times I've clicked "Report Abuse > Spam" on one of Rick's religion posts. Google happily ignores these reports. However, I make a point to let any on-topic discussions stand. I'll even answer a post by Rick -- provided that it's actually about C.

Try this, Rick. STOP the off-topic spamming. Permanently. I predict that the troll(s) you attracted will soon go back to ignoring you.

TL:DR - Rick is an asshole. We already know that. As an advertisement
for Christianity, he's wonderful. Still, if God can accept him, we can
see that he is a very tolerant God.

Google doesn't completely ignore those reports.
Normally, when you view the Google Groups page for a particular topic, a
portion of each message is displayed next to the name of the person who
posted it. When someone reports a message as abusive, that text is
replaced by "This message has been hidden because someone has reported
it for abuse. To see it anyway, click here."
If someone reports the very first message of an entire topic as abusive,
in the newsgroup page the topic title is not displayed. In its place is
the message "This topic has been hidden because someone reported it for
abuse."
These changes don't go into effect immediately - you have to completely
leave the relevant web page and then come back to it so see those messages.

When viewed by the person who reported the abuse, "someone" is replaced
by "you". When I view comp.lang.c, the overwhelming majority of
messages reported for abuse in comp.lang.c say "you", not "someone". So
I'm apparently doing most of the reporting.

I have not been posting the many posts recently flooding the several
groups I normally post to. A man named Peter Cheung has been imperson-
ating me. He has posted messages using "rickchod...@gmail.com",
and here in the past day or two has been using my own email address,
but if you examine the headers on the messages you'll see they are
posted through aioe.org using an Apple/Mac software program. I do
not use Apple products.

There are ways to identify the false posts from my real posts. In
many cases you can by the content. In other cases, the headers will
reveal it clearly.

You can set filters in a "real newsreader" to block any content you
like. If anyone needs assistance in setting that up, I'm happy to
assist you ... even if it's to block my own legitimate content.

I'm not here to force anything on anyone. What Jesus Christ offers
is an offering. It's given freely to whosoever will receive it.

You can do better than than this by kill-filing him so that you don't
have to do anything and help us all not to read anything that idiot or
his impersonator writes about Jesus.

I don't see any posts from nutters talking about religion but people
like you are quoting their posts and now we have to kill-file people
like you as well for being fools wasting time replying to them.

Is your college not teaching students how to avoid problems? You avoid
problems by blocking them completely. Now go and teach your students
how to do this.
