Hi COBirders,

We observed a female Black Scoter today at Lathrop State Park, Huerfano County. The bird was actively diving in the first lake that the state park map refers to as Martin Lake (I believe eBird refers to it as Lake Oehm). We posted photos to the eBird checklist.

Good birding,

The black scoter is still at Martin on the eastern side of the lake near the dam outlet.

Hi David,

We drove into the state park and immediately pulled over along a dam or dike and scanned the water of Martin Lake. The scoter wasn't too far out, but I really needed a scope view to confirm. We then pulled into the parking lot where the youth fishing pond is and got the scope and walked to the water's edge. We practically sped to the youth fishing pond parking lot to verify. :-) I am not sure if those are helpful tips or not!

Good luck tomorrow!

Thanks,
Kara

I meant to ask if you had any other tips, not hints. -- on spots you visited. Sorry.

Hi,

I'll be down that way tomorrow with a DFO trip. Any other hints? Thanks for the report.
