Scullers

Thank you all for the move this weekend.    Thank you to the many who had prior commitments but still contacted me to let me know,  believe me this is very helpful to know you're out there and willing when able!!   I was really touched to see scullers out to help that I didn't know, or have been there very seldom.

We moved into an adequate area for the time being,  a bit less space than advertised but Tom and I walked the place yesterday morning and came up with a game plan.

We had issues with the big rack.   the pipe connector hex set screws were frozen so we couldn't easily disconnect,  move, and rebuild the rack.   In the meantime the single racks are moved with boats so that they can be rowed for now.   The fours and eights are in slings on the ground.

Projects for near future as far as current temp location concerned.

1.  an adequate crew to rebuild and reposition the rack.   Some might have a better idea than mine,   We need to either:
      a.  use impact driver and lots of penetrating oil to break hex set screws frree on the cross members .. or:
      b.  drill out the set screws with a very large hardened bit.    or:
      c.   use angle grinder to cut off the offending knuckles(connectors)

2.  set up racks approximately where located and set up gates to be able to open with both panels.  with the current dimensions,  the eights will be nearly butted up against the "gate"   so we need to open fence with two panels to be able to get out.

3.  put big boats on rack with a larger crew.  The trailers in the yard would have to move for this to work,  but these are construction trailers for the new park.

4.  get good tie downs for singles and redo all of that

5.   scrub grime off of boats.

6.   Keep weeds knocked down in the yard.

I won't be in Lake County again until July 2.   My game plan is to try to run camps this summer.  Not sure if this will be realistic given the challenge for launching.   I expect David and Carol will figure out how we might efficiently launch from that spot.    With the lake up,  it looks deceptively easy.   There is a sea wall covered by the high water that will preclude launching from in front of the current boatyard when the lake levels drop.

We have a wide open future and currently a supportive city.   The ball is in our court as to how we want to develop this program.   My vision has always been for a program that serves the middle and high school kids of Lake County over the summer months as well as reasonable cost athletic access to our wonderful lake for Lake County adults,, both competitive and recreational.

This is a project for future discussion.

Again, thanks for the hard work on Sunday.

Keep your calendar open,  my UC Irvine crews will be racing in Sacramento the last weekend in April,  be fun if you came up and cheered for my teams!!!

BEST wishes.

Sully

Mike,
We would be happy to assist in any way , cleaning or building racks in the future. We just need adequate notice to make sure our calendar is clear.
Thank You,
Lisa and Kate
