Hi, I'm curious on what thoughts you all have on the quality/usefullness
of the CleanCoders videos.

So far I've bought all of the videos of all series, just because I love
the way of presenting of the earlier episodes. But with the latest
videos I get the feeling things are spread out way to much, to much
repetition, not enough new stuff, not enough info per episode.

With the Clean Code videos the usefullness for me dropped down after
episode 23. Episode 24 felt already as way to spread out and that
continued with 25 and 26. I would love Uncle Bob to go back to the
format of the beginning of the series, real theory, real principles,
real ways of thinking and practical approach.. without too much fluf.

What do you think about the usefullness of the latest episodes?

For the Java Case Study, it's basicly just watching Robert and Micah
pair program. It's good to see how this progress goes, but I'm starting
to feel that it's not really worth the money. As it doesn't learn me
anything new besides seeing how 2 experienced pair programmers approach
the pairing and problem solving. I hope the Java Case Study will change
format to a useful format. For me, a more useful format would be one
bundle of all videos cut in 1 hour sessions. Or even better, change it
to the format of the "Build an App with Corey Haines" series. Theory +
real coding.

What do you think?
What suggestions do you have to Uncle Bob to make the episodes more
useful to you?

/Patrick

Patrick,

I got also the opinion that for the latest episodes the balance is going more to "it's just for the money" instead of change our profession/industry, but can we blame him.
If he can spread information into two episodes he does it, there is still some new inside in each episode and it's not that expensive for the early adapters.

I'll think the future will solve this out, when they see the revenue is going downwards they will automatically have to change their approach.

The revenue from the case study episodes is very strong, and is growing.  So I'm not concerned. I _do_ think the two series serve somewhat different audiences.  The Clean Code series is more theoretical; and the case study series is more practical.  The Clean Code series involves costumes and characters and a quirky education style.  The case study has a much more familiar teaching style.

Do I do this for the money?  Absolutely!  I'll never be ashamed of that!

Hey guys,
I think we all can choose whether to buy the videos or not. I choose to buy them, because I feel that are useful for me. And I can tell it because I've already bought 42 of the 44 videos over these years...

Nevertheless, I'm in favor of people telling Uncle Bob what do they expect. He's experienced enough to take the advice or doing whatever he thinks is the best :)

I haven't quite reached the end of the Clean Code Videos (finished ep. 24), but so far I have found at least something interesting and new in every episode. Well maybe some could be compressed and shortened, but on the other hand a bit of review and repetition also does make things stick a bit better, especially with a video. I also feel the videos are useful, for one, it's much easier and motivational for me to watch the videos and learn from them after an 8h+ working day than for example reading the information in the book.

As for the Java Case Study, I found them extremely valuable since in my current job situation I don't really have a role model to really see all the theory applied in practice and the videos so far already gave me nice insight on how all fits together.

All in all the videos are so far in total still much less than a one week training normally costs and I doubt all topics treated so far could be touched there. (ok, there still is the hand's on component, but the videos also contain a few pointers to what you can try out). Initially I also thought it a bit 'expensive', but spread out over three months it's not too bad and once one caught up it's about 2 videos per month I think, which isn't too bad.
