Hey folks! I'm Robert and I teach 10th and 12th grade English in Michigan. I'm excited to be part of a small group of teachers who will be experimenting with ways to utilize Chromebooks in the High School English classroom. I love technology, computers, laptops, and gadgets, and their ability to make our lives more efficient and the learning process more enjoyable, effective, and meaningful in the 21st century.Instead of buying new textbooks for 2012-13, English teachers in my high school decided to ask the finance, curriculum, and administrative leaders in our district for two class sets of Chromebooks (equivalent in cost to new textbooks for all sophomore students). These will be stored in docking/charging carts and act as a computer lab on wheels which will be shared among the 5 teachers responsible for the 10th grade English classes. We believe we can bolster our curriculum and improve student success with even this limited access to Chromebooks than we would with new textbooks. I'm sure many would agree textbooks in the traditional sense are an endangered species. Ours is not a school-wide 1-to-1 movement, but rather the dangling toe in the pool testing the waters. I like to think we are the greeters ushering in the first wave of the inevitable technological flood that is looming on the horizon for all schools.
I am happy to see this group! I teach general music in Kimberly, WI. Our 6th graders will have Chrome Books 1:1 this year. I am looking for apps that will supplement my teaching of note reading, pianos, and music terms. I have not found an app I am love with yet, in fact there are only a few that I have found at all. I would appreciate any suggestions for apps or other uses for my music classroom. Thanks!Karrie Been

Dave Laroche from La Salle Academy, Providence, RII will be using Chromebooks with a small group of students in an Intro to Computers course which focuses on making sure our students have the basics in word processing, spreedsheets and presentation software. Using Chromebooks is a part of that; I will also be giving them time on the Microsoft products. There are also going to be Chromebooks in our library and a set in our science department.Looking for any ideas or any good tutorials for students on using the Google Docs.
Hello:My name is Luke Callahan and I am the tech coordinator for a K-8 charter school in Massachusetts (450-students). Last year we piloted a Chromebook cart to be used by students in our 5-8 grade classes. This year we now will have an additional three carts in the building. Our staff uses the Google suite of products and last year we opened this up to the 5-8 grade students with excellent successes.Looking forward to reading a lot on this forum and to hopefully add insight. Thanks!
