Hi, I created this group for teachers to share and get answers to Chromebook related pedagogy and edtech integration into our classrooms.  My name is Dan Sitter, I'm a social studies teacher in Fond du Lac, WI.  I spent the last year working as a technology integration specialist helping get our district ready for a 1to1 at the high school with Chromebooks.

I teach AP Psychology and US History at the high school level.  Looking forward to sharing the adventure with fellow teachers using Chromebooks from around the country!

Hey folks!  I'm Robert and I teach 10th and 12th grade English in Michigan.  I'm excited to be part of a small group of teachers who will be experimenting with ways to utilize Chromebooks in the High School English classroom.  I love technology, computers, laptops, and gadgets, and their ability to make our lives more efficient and the learning process more enjoyable, effective, and meaningful in the 21st century.

Instead of buying new textbooks for 2012-13, English teachers in my high school decided to ask the finance, curriculum, and administrative leaders in our district for two class sets of Chromebooks (equivalent in cost to new textbooks for all sophomore students).  These will be stored in docking/charging carts and act as a computer lab on wheels which will be shared among the 5 teachers responsible for the 10th grade English classes.  We believe we can bolster our curriculum and improve student success with even this limited access to Chromebooks than we would with new textbooks.  I'm sure many would agree textbooks in the traditional sense are an endangered species.  Ours is not a school-wide 1-to-1 movement, but rather the dangling toe in the pool testing the waters.  I like to think we are the greeters ushering in the first wave of the inevitable technological flood that is looming on the horizon for all schools.

Watch out, Robert!  Once you dangle the toes in, you can never go back!!  Browse the Web Store for unusual ways to use apps in the classroom.  My kids played The Secret of Grisly Manor (a find and seek game that was challenging!) and wrote some awesome mysteries!  Good luck!

Hello, everyone:

My name is George Sorrells, I'm the Technology Facilitator for Winneconne Schools, in Winneconne, WI.  I don't teach, but I do look at my job as making it easier for the teachers in my district to use technology.  I signed our district up for GAFE last year, and we are moving there completely as quickly as I can drag everyone else along kicking and screaming!

My district has around 1,100 kids K-12.  I recently got another shipment of chromebooks into the district; so we will be starting the school year with about 350 chromebooks.  I look forward to learning a lot from all of you in the group.

Hello,

I'm Laura Coulter and I'm the Instructional Technology Specialist for the new high school in Richland 2, SC. I am new to being an ITS and we are opening 1:1 with Chromebooks (every student gets to one assigned to them for the year) this year so the learning curve is extremely high. I am lucky in that I was one of the teachers who had a class set of Chromebooks last spring when I taught freshman and junior English, so I have some experience and ideas.

My current plan is to make our teachers comfortable with their Chromebooks this summer so that they can jump right in with them when the students have them. I recently attended the Midlands Summit and was amazed with all of the available apps and resources. I recommend that summit to all teachers next year. Based on what I learned there and additional research,I am putting together a list of possible resources for the classroom and plan on sending that list out to the faculty so that those who are chomping at the bit to explore their Chromebooks can help me assess apps and become school resources. I'm really hoping that works.

Our district really likes Edmodo and we have Google Apps for Education. I like that each student has a school Gmail account because the Google Apps for Education allows students to create accounts for the apps by using their Google account. That makes it really easy and there are less passwords to remember. I also advise students to always keep school and personal accounts separate.

I hope to grow with this group.

Bonjour tous!

I'm Lisa Nordmeyer.  I teach French (Levels 1, 3 & 4) at West Leyden H.S. in Northlake, IL.  Our district (two high schools) is going 1:1 beginning in August and all our students will be receiving Chromebooks.  I'm starting slow by going to an online text / workbook only in my French 4 courses, which have been using the online workbooks for the text for a few years now.  We will also have a BIG learning curve this year, but I'm sure it will prove to be "trèsw intéressant"!

" My current plan is to make our teachers comfortable with their Chromebooks this summer so that they can jump right in with them when the students have them."

I would suggest to you also to train a group of kids to act as Chrome assistants, at least one per class.  There were many times when I would be teaching or assisting my kids with their issues and students from other classes (or teachers) would come to me for help.  It was a blessing to have some "experts" who very professionally took over the issue and resolved it quickly and quietly.  That spread ME a lot further and all the kids began to pick up trouble shooting skills.  It worked great!  (The Chromebooks are totally separate from the other computers in our school, meaning that our tech teacher knew nothing about them.  I was always the answer person, so it helps to train several answer people.)

Can you share your list of apps and tips from the Midlands Summit?
Thanks.

Welcome and good luck!

share the list of any apps that you have found to work on a chromebook
with me so that I can share with the teachers? I have been exploring,
as have others, to find appropriate and dependable apps for high

Let me know and I'll pass your name along to our French language teachers to see if they can help out with using Chromebooks in a second language!

Hi, my name is Adam Kampia. I teach language arts, grades 6-8, at a small private school in Maryland. I'll be piloting a 1:1 Chromebook program in my classes this Fall (2012). We have one year of Google Apps for Education under our belts, so I am very excited about what I can do with the chromebooks this year. I've only had mine for two days, but I have been furiously testing it (and trying to run out the battery).

Greetings!
My name is Rachel Pierson, and I am a 6th grade teacher/Technology Coordinator at Trinity Lutheran School in Waukesha, WI.  We have 175 students in K-8. I will be piloting a Chromebook program in my 6th grade class for the 2012-2013 school year, in hopes of expanding all the way to 8th grade in the next three years. This summer, we dismantled our computer lab, and are going completely to laptops.  There will be 40 Windows 7 laptops on carts that will move between our classrooms, and the 6th grade will have a dedicated set of Chromebooks.

I spent a week in Milwaukee in July at the Google Education Summit, where we learned about a ton of things Google and Cloud-computing related.

I am also in the final stretches of my masters program for Educational Design and Technology through Concordia University - Wisconsin. My graduate thesis/seminar project is going to be based on the 1:1 experience I will have this upcoming school year.

I look forward to sharing with you and learning from and with you!

Hi all,

I teach 8th grade World History at a large, PK-12 independent school in Raleigh, NC.  Last year, our 7th and 10th grade students piloted Chromebooks, and we found out late in the spring that we would be adopting them 7-12 for the 2012-2013 year.  My primary use at the outset will be for using Docs, use of our new e-texts, current events searches, research on library databases, and message board discussions through Veracross (our teacher/student/parent portal is hosting message boards for the first time).  I'm terrified, but my kids will have a year under their belts and will no doubt show me the ropes.  Thanks, Dan, for setting this up.

I will be using Chromebooks with a small group of students in an Intro to Computers course which focuses on making sure our students have the basics in word processing, spreedsheets and presentation software.  Using Chromebooks is a part of that; I will also be giving them time on the Microsoft products.
There are also going to be Chromebooks in our library and a set in our science department.
Looking for any ideas or any good tutorials for students on using the Google Docs.

Our school has made a full conversion to Google Apps and the Chromebook Carts keep multiplying, which is exciting.  I'm looking forward to the day when we each have a cart available in our classroom or when each student can be assigned one for the year.  It has been fun to watch the kids embrace them, and I'm excited to learn of all the possibilities.

My name is Kevin O'Donnell and I do a little bit of everything with technology at Belmar Elementary School in Belmar, NJ.  My coworker and I split tech classes and the tech management duties.
My coworker and I went to the Google NY NJ Apps Summit last spring (and we're going again this year - sites.google.com/site/nynjgs13/) and have been moving quickly towards Chromebooks ever since.  We started a pilot last year with 75 Samsung Sereies 5 (1:1 50 students, 1 mobile cart to share). Since we were early adopters we go a half price offer in the fall and got 50 more (same type). We just ordered 115 of the new Samsung Chromebook ($249 + $30).  Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, they are about 8 weeks backordered!
This is a great resource for the Chromebooks and teaching with them.  I also like the groups Google Apps K12 User Group and Google Apps Technical Forum.
We look forward to learning more and to sharing what we find

Most definitely still active and just trying to get the message out that more people can share, share, share here.  Glad to have you aboard.  Whatever questions you have as a teacher or resources you need just let the group know.  There are a lot of experts in this group that can answer questions, help with lessons, etc.  I can also hook you up with some people from our English department that can share stories or answer questions you might have!

I've been a lurker in this group for some time.  My name is Pam Mass, and I teach French in Council Bluffs, IA.  I was fortunate to be one of the lucky ones who got to beta test the cr-48 Chromebooks before they were made public.  Council Bluffs was one of five districts in the nation who were honored with this opportunity.  This is our 2nd year of being 1:1 at the high school.  I also moderate a Chromebook group on Edmodo if anyone is interested.  It is great to see so many more schools using Chromebooks!

Glad to have found another Chromebook group! I teach Seventh (English, Reading, Spelling, and Geography) and Eighth grade US History. We are located in the western plains of South Dakota, and are implementing Chromebooks with our middle school this year. So far, I'm loving it! Looking forward to learning with you all!

Hi all,

I guess I'm a bit late in joining the group, but I'm glad to have found it.  I teach seniors at a high school in South Texas.  I teach English and am 1:1 in my classroom with Chromebooks--the only one at my campus, having bought most of them on my own.  I actually learned about using Chromebooks for 1:1 from a webinar with Fon du Lac, which really got me interested in doing this.  Looking forward to learning and sharing!

Hi there,
I'm Chris Hiltz, and I'm teaching 7th and 8th grade math up in Ottawa Ontario Canada. I've been fortunate enough to be a part of our district's Chromebook Pilot Project (we were one of the first classrooms in Canada to get a set of Chromebooks!) We had a great experience using these devices and will continue exploring ways that they can enhance student achievement next year. I'm looking forward to sharing and learning in this group. Thanks Dan for putting it together.
