        March, 2025

Welcome to the March 2025 edition of the cBioPortal Newsletter!

As we step into 2025, we're excited to share the latest updates and enhancements in cBioPortal.

cBioPortal is hosting Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2025

We are excited to announce that cBioPortal has once again been selected as a host organization for GSoC this year! The GSoC program plays a key role in nurturing our community by attracting talented contributors who bring fresh perspectives and skills to enhance cBioPortal.

Last summer was a great success, with 10 wonderful contributors making meaningful contributions—check out our recap of cBioPortal’s GSoC 2024! If you're interested in participating this year, explore our GSoC organization page for a list of potential projects and details on the application process

We are looking forward to working with you as either contributors or mentors. The projects vary in difficulty and scope, so don’t hesitate to start a conversation if any of them catch your interest! The official contributor applications start on March 24th, make sure to use the time until then to bring up any ideas for tackling already listed projects as contributors, or come up with your own ideas as mentors! Here is the timeline for the full program.

Feature Highlight: Sorting functionality for stacked bar charts

You can now re-order the stacked bar charts in the Plots Tab alphabetically, by the number of samples or by the data category in the plot. This enhancement allows you to create more ready-to-publish figures using cBioPortal! As usual, the plots created in the Plots Tab can be downloaded in different formats. Click here to try out the enhanced stacked bar charts in cBioPortal.
