mast head "thingy" question

sometimes  on  the  mast  head  there  is a  "thingy"  that  protrudes  beyond  the forestay  to  which  one  can attach  a  block  for  a spinnaker halyard-   what  is  it  called  can  it  be  purchased  separately and attached??  Anyone  have a "HANDY"  idea  for  attaching  something?

That thing is called a crane. You can buy them or make them. Google spinnaker crane and you will see what I'm talking about.
