Hi !

I have pretty high non-verbal iq (tested and confirmed in professional administrated test).

From the beginning I was 'math boy', I scored most times "A" on exams from Math and in similar subjects.

But in terms of my native language I had "C" or "B" grades at best in school.

Are there any reliable ways to increase verbal iq?

"Are there any reliable ways to increase verbal IQ?"

Verbal IQ tests measure vocabulary, analogy, sequencing of ideas, and comprehension. Arguably, it is easier to increase Verbal IQ than non-Verbal IQ.

For most people, increasing verbal IQ is as simple as careful, considered reading every single day. That means reading material, recalling it in your mind and in note-taking after reading, as well as looking up the meanings of words that you can't auto-recall the definition of. This process, repeated for three to four hours every night should increase elements of your memory, comprehension, and vocabulary.

Analogical reasoning at higher levels is incredibly difficult because nuances in definition turn the exercises from a simple test of wordsum vocabulary to a proxy for pattern analysis taxing the mind as much or more than RAPM. Even more significant is the ability to create analogies. Comedians are usually very good at this task and are almost always in the top 2-3% of verbal SAT takers. Successfully increasing high level analogical reasoning may require much more than reading, writing, and rule following. Improvisational comedic acting or "improv" could be a way to generate verbal competency in some of these domains. Another "brain training" program created in Ireland deals explicitly with analogical reasoning: raiseyouriq.com. I can't say for certain whether improv or the ryiq program works for improving verbal competency, but I'd be surprised if they had no effect. At the very least I'd expect near transfer and verbal testing improvement.

Finally, although I have absolutely no evidence for this, I think freestyle rapping may be an exercise with a lot of potential to improve verbal IQ. It requires fast paced, rhythmic wording paired with storytelling that can be expository, poetic, or informational. People get the idea that rappers are idiots who glorify sex and violence but that's only half right. The rappers with fame and fortune are the smartest members of their peer group.

oh why, the most fame and fortune falsely always stated to be of the smartest??

lolz.

Fame and Fortune are both highly correlated with verbal intelligence. Moreso than mathematical/abstract intelligence.

more SMARTNESS!= more fame and fortune

understand? if you are well connected u can have fortune and fame
even if you are a dumbass
if you are smart but not connected at all
you can forget about fame and fortune. also you need to play dirty.
because most of those fame fortune require calls of " authority "
. they dont give a crap how smart u are just how impressive and connected u are.

The benefits of simply keeping a journal can be immense. However, it's naive to commit to this kind of abstraction; you can't really factor away aspects of yourself in this way, and the aspects are much more important than we give credit for. There's probably a reason why you're more mathematically inclined relative to verbally, and I'm not referring to innatism or that sort of thing with regards to skill development per se, but fundamental aspects of your personality. So I think that the enjoyment brought about by dealing with language must itself be a requisite if you are to see meaningful improvements in verbal intelligence, assuming it's possible to increase it.

it is difficult.

it takes daily practice.....preferably a systematic process......30min a day, 5 days a week, for a year......probably would work.

you could go to the site i will post........

learn a few hundred words.......then let the program know you know those 300 in like 2months.......repeat that pattern until all 2000 or so are learnt.........but in 4mo 'renew' those first 300......letting it think u dont remember them.......so u can review them again, but still advance at a faster rate.

it can get tedious......but that is kind of what i did (but i quit).......i didnt like their algorithm.....i was 'kind of' familiar with like about 1000 of them.......so i didnt want to review them as much........so i marked them as well known (i already know)........but since i wasnt quite sure of the nuances, i still wanted to review them at some point.......so i went back and remarked them.........

in this way i eventually got to like 1200 words or so that reviewed pretty frequently.......then when i wanted to learn more words at a faster rate, i marked them again as 'known'........that way i could get more frequent repetition of the newer, more difficult words

i should have never stopped. i should have continued the process for all 2000 words.....over a year.......5 days a week.

if this is done.......i think verbal IQ can be increased.

i wish they would adapt a different algorithm.

i chose the SAT plan

it is like $75/year or something

there may be other ways too, but i liked the fast audio pronunciations, the visual nature, the hooks, etc.......it seemed to be a method that would have worked for me.

and yes, i know what u mean--my verbal iq sucks
