Hi!

I'd like to use Thorlabs camera with Bonsai, but can't figure out how to make it visible by software; neither CameraCapture nor VideoCaptureDevice worked for me. Any ideas what's going wrong?

Thanks much for help.

Hi Kate,

What is the camera model number?

Cheers,

Adam

Hi Kate,
This might work directly with Bonsai's "VideoCapture" node if you install the DirectShow interface drivers. I emphasize might work. The procedure is described here: In section 2.4

If this does not work, then one may need to write a custom "source" node for this camera using their C# SDK. This is not too hard, but requires a little C# knowledge. I'd recommend following the steps to setup the camera's DirectShow driver, and then let us know if Bonsai can "see it".

Cheers and good luck,
Adam

Hi Adam,

The DirectShow drivers were already installed, and the camera was registered. But it didn't help :(

Thanks,
Kate

Hi Kate,

Does anything appear in the Index dropdown menu? Did you install the Bonsai.Video.Design package?

If so and nothing shows up then I would agree with Adam that it is probably necessary to write a C# node interface. The best way is to start from the C# examples they provide and paste it into a Bonsai source.

I can try to provide some guidelines if you are willing to go this route.

Hi Goncalo,

Video Design package is installed. I'm not sure what drop down menu you're talking about and what should appear there. Can you please clarify?

Thank you,
Kate

Hi Kate,

When you select the VideoCaptureDevice node, it should be possible to expand the Index property to list all available devices, like this:

Inline images 2

This should display all available cameras, including the Thorlabs camera, if the system can detect it.

If it shows up in this list, you can select it and it should work.

Goncalo,

Aah, got it. There is nothing, unfortunately.

Thank you,
Kate

Hi again!

I fixed the problem with recognizing camera by Bonsai, I changed computer (have no idea why it helped). But I have another problem: there is no video, just black window. There is video with webcam and the camera works fine with Thorlabs software (my camera is Thorlabs DCC3260M). Any ideas what's going wrong?

Thank you much for help,
Kate

Hi Kate,

Can you tell us what available camera configurations show up under the Format property drop-down? If the camera is correctly detected, these configurations should tell you what resolutions and camera formats are available, etc.
