Good afternoon,

We have also visited an orphanage.

Sharing Joy

14th October, 2010.

We received loads of clothes and a very little amount of grains. We also received a little of e-waste and around 20 note books. We distributed clothes and grains to an Orphanage called 'Future foundation'. One of our first year students found out that this orphanage in Mirjalguda is run by a couple who are self employed and do not receive any funds from anywhere. The couple looks after 25 orphans and semi orphans and also sends them to nearby schools persuading the school management for concession of fees. One thing which really shook us was the unconditional love the couple showered on all the children. The couple have a 2 year old son who is also brought up as one among the 25. There are 5 HIV positive children residing among them. The couple says that they never felt that the orphans were not their children. They had started their orphanage with 2 children and now it is 25. When asked about the financial assistance, the man said that he designs newsletter, brochures and works for an MNC from home.

We were overwhelmed to see the young couple work for the society and felt that we were in the right place. We were happy that we were helping the people who deserved the most. The children over there were very happy to see us and they sang and danced to the tunes of our students addressing them affectionately. We were so happy that we went to visit them for one hour but were there for more than 3 hours.

Me too came across few couples who share their food and shelter with few orphan children and soon
it becomes a extended family with many inmates, Thanks ruth garu for sharing this info, I consider
this couple as angels send by GOD to take care of his children with love and affection. Not everyone
can do that, My sincere salutes to that couple

It's amazing to see so many individuals , couples committing their time, money and efforts and also inspiring others along the way.

May be we can think of starting a food bank. This way we can channelize all the efforts to reach a wider population.

Cheers
Suri

Gud evening Ruth garu...

First of all I would like to congratulate the couple for all the heavenly love and caring they are showing towards these kids.
I believe they have inspired everyone of us a lot.

My kudos to you and your students who have been trying to reach to such remotely accessed organisations and rendering your service.
You definitely are setting up a great example for the students. Keep going!

Best wishes,

Satya Ravi Kiran V

Its gr8 to see involvement of so many of you in the social program and
its gets our hopes up for a better society. It is a wonderful idea to
have a foodbank, nothing could be more helpful then to have a easy
facility to get food. I guess it should not be one time and it should
not be free (its not valued if given away free). It would be a good
idea to take a token amount and use the same money back for procuring
food items.

One more thing, before i close. If we are able to have something like
a Harm Reduction Centre that would help reach out to people who are
into achohol and substance abuse. if we can help them and are able to
turn there lives around. I think it would do each family a gr8 help.

This should be available to only the poor whose lives have been
affected due to such habit.

Just a thought..... please think about it if you want to.

Best
Preeti

Thanks Ruth garu for sharing the news about your visit.

Those who visited DESIRE Society would have met Mr. Prashant and his wife, Aparanji. Helping Hands team Lakshman invited them to the place and we had a good discussion with him. In fact, we wanted to visit Future Foundation for the subsequent monthly meeting but we couldn't organize a meet at all.

They are very dedicated and it is very difficult to work in such a manner. Even if the couple is out of station, they run the show and manage everything. The monthly expenditure is around Rs. 30,000 to manage the home. Prashant has been involved in this work for the past 10 years. He is used to go to villages with his doctor friend who ran awareness campaigns there. (The doctor and his wife started a hospital, Nireekshana, at RTC Crossroads and every Wednesday evening they offer free consultation). He decided to work for HIV affected people (no age/gender/caste/religion bar). He started with two orphans and now there are 25 children. Aparanji is his cousin and she also extended her support to his ideals. The rest is history!

An article on them and their efforts was published in Andhrajyothy daily in the first week of September (may be 2nd Sep).

Lakshman, do share about your interaction and association with them.

Thank you.
