Thank you one and all for coming up with your experiences and views about BosF.
The main intention of this thread is to generate content to post on our Web site specially for the people who do not know how a small act can make a big difference.
Getting to Know
Not merely getting to know but which help establish a partnership or working together.
Ex: JJ Metta Foundation came to know about Sphoorthi through BosF, visited the organization, established a dialogue, initiated a process and at last entered into partnership.
This example highlights the importance of following mails of interest and acting on them.
Another example, Srivyal of Sphoorthi introduced me to Kameswara Rao garu and this has made a big difference to TMAD. We decided to take a big step of setting up a livelihood center at his place. We also got good support from BosF. Thiagarajan garu gave 10k for the first month's expenses. Athmeeya Foundation came forward to contribute 1k every month.
Sharing Requests
1. Suma gave a call to me requesting for volunteers to take care of a lady who had no other option than to get stranded over at bus stand. Thanks to BosF volunteers who went out of their way and provided shelter for her. They took the responsibility in such a way that when her family members came, they spoke with them and later visited her home to make sure that she is being looked after properly.
2. Suresh Deepala went to Tirumala and found that a baby has been abandoned. He gave a call to me and I made a call to Lakshmi garu and she to child welfare officials and at last the baby went into the safe hands, handed over to an ashram by officials.
These are the examples of people acting with responsibility though they cannot act on field on particular situations.
Suresh has two more examples:
3. He shared the details of an old lady who needs treatment for a rare disease. Initially he was hesitant to share the mail in the group as there were many no. of medical cases being forwarded. But then he shared based on my suggestion and to our surprise, there was a good response. He could raise 70% of the funds from BosF.
4. For support to displaced tribals, some of our volunteers responded - Giri Kolanupaka and Suhasini.
5. AMMA Sreekanth took up a case of a young girl and he could generate good amount of fund for the operation
6. TMAD received a request from a friend for the operation of a baby girl and when 70k was the amount required for the surgery to be conducted, we got one single donor, Praveen, who contributed the required amount, entire 70k.
7. Manikanth shared about the NGOs visit with HIV children to Hyderabad and we all know how most of us contributed our bit for this activity.
8. Livelihood center in VJA is supported by 4 groups last year and 3 groups this year.
Giving References
For all Green activities, references played a major role. Coming to flood relief activities, references helped a lot specially about where we can buy in bulk for a competitive price and all.
Corporate Help
TMAD got benefitted from Oracle and CapitalIQ GVD (Global Volunteer Day) programmes. With Oracle GVD, we have taken Mehdipatnam school children to Warangal and high school students from a village near Mehbub Nagar (Harinath gari native place) to Hyderabad.
With the help of CapitalIQ GVD programme, we renovated the school in Borabanda. Ramakrishna garu of ITMD referred his friend who donated fund for benches. Giri Kolanupaka coordinated with the vendor of the benches.
Ramakrishna garu of ITMD guides us in many cases related to RTI. Earlier it was Rakesh who gave many sessions in the meetings organized by different groups in BosF.
Through our company (DST Worldwide Services) CSR, we contributed for the LeadIndia 2020 School Kits project as part of flood relief activities. In a way, our (DSTWS) visit to Alampur made us take Alampur as the area to help. Though it was a TMAD initiative, we got major help from BosF. Giri garu has helped us raise substantial fund for contribution in specific streets, Hope for the Needy volunteers, Kiran garu of Asha and Kanthi (Kiran's wife) participated in the distribution. That was the first time I spoke with Usha garu (Turaga Revalli) and she guided us.
Responding for Cases
BHUMIkA's contribution has been great with respect to sharing information, offering support and providing guidance.
We could help a girl in Maharashtra who wanted protection from her own parents. Similarly we mediated in a case (of course later found that the girl was lying), a minor mother who got jailed and separated from her baby.
Kappaladoddi info. is forwarded to us by BHUMIKA and they were with us all through to the extent required and for the first set of distribution we got funds from BosF members who did not directly take part in the initiative and groups like Serve the Needy are continuing their support.
Srujanavani wanted to organize medical camp for an unknown disease. TMAD and other groups helped them.
Attending Events
Attended Saayam Cheddam's Anniversary and there I came to know about Vikalangula Vivaha Vedika. From then on I have been in touch with them and they are the regular invitees in our Company whenever we organize a mela. Similarly many BosF volunteers attended VKV's anniversary and offered help to organize the programmes. I met Giri Kolanupaka for the first time there.
If I am not mistaken, Pavan, Susmitha and Sai came to know about Srividya Home for Mentally Handicapped, at Karmayog Seva Mela and then they decided to raise funds for them.
Though I haven't attended WHAT's anniversary programme, it influenced me in a way. Uday Bhaskar of Lending Hands told me about JP's message who attended the event as Chief Guest. It is about working on medical cases and raising funds for surgeries.
Organizing Events
Pavan, Susmitha and Sai took the responsibility of fund raising for SVMH and it is in this event that they met Anand garu and it is Sai who shared about BosF with him.
Extending Help for the Causes/Projects shared by Others
Dr. Khadeer Ahmed of BKothapalli is doing remarkable service to the poor patients and TMAD Blr Chapter has been supporting 10 families. Harish of Sahasra visited the place and decided to help two patients. Similarly he met and discussed with Gangisetty garu about Green Initiatives and Activities.
Serve the Needy team has been helping KGNM Trust and we, TMAD, visited and we also extended our support.
In addition to these examples, there were many with respect to education cases. Recent example is of Ranjith's. Rohiya, a student, has raised 15,000 rs. and she came to know about him through BosF. MV Rao of Helping Hands for the Needy has helped education cases proposed in the forum.
AMMA and TMAD work together wherever possible. Similarly AMMA, Serve the Needy and Helping Hands (of BHEL) work together.
Eversince Anand garu joined the group, he is helping us with respect to case verification from remote villages and also for extending support through his reporter network.
This mail might seem big but there are many such examples. This is the kind of tip of an iceberg. Let us start compiling them and let us start sharing so that it would help others understand how they can be of help to others without having to spend much energy or to say, with their constraints.
To give an example, TMAD has been doing good work but never focused on compiling them. Now when my team has taken initiative and started posting the activities, I am surprised. I too didn't have a clue about the number of activities that we took up. I simply lost track. Realized that the same mistake is being repeated here and considering it is better late than never, sought content from you directly.
All said and done, we need volunteers to update the Web site and preference will be given to the volunteers who live outside Hyderabad. This is because Hyd volunteers mostly spend time on field work and I do not want to rub additional responsibility on any of them.
