Hello,

I'm running a fairly standard molecular dating analysis, but I haven't used BEAST in awhile. I'd like to define a group of taxa in my dataset as an outgroup. I know that they're the correct outgroup based on many past analyses, but BEAST is placing the root in a different location. In the interest of  post-analysis tree manipulation, is there a way to designate an outgroup in the latest version of Beauti or manually insert it in to the .xml file?

Thanks, Amanda

Amanda,

If you use BEAUti to create a taxon set for your ingroup and set it as monophyletic, your trees will then have the outgroups sitting outside that clade.

Cheers,
Mike
