Hi,

I am trying to work through the Divergence Dating tutorial for BEAST 2.0 using BEAST 2.3.1 in linux.  When I try to import the "primates-mtDNA.nex" file into BEAUti the file cannot load and I receive the error message "Error parsing imported file: dr.evolution.io.importException:CharSet, g, unable to be parsed"

Does anyone know if it should be possible to import this and what the issue may be?

Thanks,

Megan

Dear Megan,

It looks like you're actually trying to load the nexus file into BEAUti from BEAST *1*.  (Trying this on my end gives precisely the error you're seeing.)  Using the BEAUti distributed with BEAST 2 should fix the problem.

Cheers,

Tim

Thanks Tim.

I downloaded BEAST2 for linux and it doesn't seem to contain BEAUti.  I've switched to the windows version which does contain the alternative BEAUti distribution and is working.

Thanks!

Hi Megan,

Great to hear that it's working.  For GNU/Linux though, you should find beauti in the same location as the beast executable: the bin/ directory of the downloadable archive.

Cheers,

Tim
