I have a cousin who lives in Rhode Island and has done some research for me in Massachusetts.  He has requested that I send him what records I have on that branch of my family.
I have put all my research into FTM 2012.  My question is, is it possible to email him the records directly from FTM or do I have to print them out and mail via USPS?
Any advice or help would be appreciated.  I have 10 generations of information.

You can send them by saving it on Family tree maker. You can send a Gedcom, or save a genealogy report, or Ancestry report and email it to him also.

Carol W,

If your cousin uses FTM, you can send it to him in the format.  I think it's the FTW file.  If not, you'll probably have to Gedcom it over like Pam said.

I use FTM 2010.  I "publish" the records I want to send and save to desktop.  Then I attach the record to an email.  I'm not a computer person, so I hope you understand what I said.

Yes I do what Judy said, I go to the main person and then click on Publish on top. I then click on Genealogy reports one is for ancestors and the other descendants.Pick which one you want and then click on create. Then on bottom left you can change how many generations you want and then click on Generate Report. On upper right top click on share and click on export to RTF it will then ask you to name the file and it will save it. But if you have your email sent up thru outlook you can click on send as RTF

Its too early for me to be typing apparently. I meant generations not descendants.

The reports work well.  You can also use File/Export.  The following dialog is displayed:

Change the Output format to GEDCOM 5.5 and then click on "Selected individuals".  The following dialog is displayed:

Find the person you want to start from and then click on the "Descendants>" button.  All descendents will be listed on the right.

Click "OK" if it has all of the people you want to be exported.

Check the options on what you want exported.  For example, to not export living people, check the box next to "Privatize living people".  Click "OK".

You'll now get to customize the file a bit further.  Use the drop down to select which version of FTM your cousin is using.  If they aren't using FTM, then select "Other".  Leave the character set as UTF-8 (this will get all the special characters (e.g. Conceição, Picanço, Espínola).

Go ahead and attach the resulting GEDCOM file to an e-mail and send.

These instructions are for Family Tree Maker 2012.
