David Seriqui:
1881 departure Madiera, Portugal.  (I take it Madiera was a colony of Portugal?)
And going to Canarias. ( Was that also a colony of Portugal?)
Estado civil. O requerente chegou a Madiera em 20-02-1881, desembarcou doente indo tratar-se no hospital desta cidade como pobre, vindo vivir para esta admnistracão por não ter meios alguna de subsistencia.

The URL is supposedly http://armdigital.arquivo-madeira.org.81/passaportes/detalhe/?reg=351...

(I found it on Ancestry.com)

Many thanks!

That link does not work. Madeira is not one of the Azores. It's a separate autonomous region, comprised of 2 islands (Madeira and Porto Santo).

Madeira is a region of Portugal , not a colony

This is the direct link to the Arquivo Regional da Madeira  http://www.arquivo-madeira.org/acesso-aos-documentos#/bases

The Canary Islands are a region of Spain.

The Cape Verde Islands are also a region of Portugal

Hey Shril,
Although Madeira is not part of the Azores I can help you with the translation:
Madeira was and still is also part of Portugal. Canarias was and still is part of Spain.
Marital Status. The petitioner arrived in Madeira on Feb, 20th, 1881, He landed/disembarked sick and was treated at this city`s hospital as a destitute, living as such because he had no means of subsistence.

Cape Verde is not a region of Portugal, not since 1974 or 75. They do speak Portuguese, but they have their own Republic.

- Marital status: single
- He came to Madeira on 22/02/1881
- He arrived sick, and was He was treated at the hospital of this city as poor
He came to live in this administration for not having any means of subsistence. ('meios alguns' is a negative form, while 'alguns meios' would mean he had something)
