I've be scouring the parish records for my great grand parents. I have only been able to find the birth record for my great grandmother in candelaria.
Her name was Maria Jorge born 1904. She married Manuel Revoredo who was about two years older than his wife. I can't find his record anywhere.

There is also my great grandfather Jose Paiva, who married Maria do carmo Pereira. They had many children, one of them being Antonio Paiva (b 1926) (my grand father), who had tragically died in Toronto. Articles and a book was dedicated to my grandmother after this event. Her name was Agueda Revoredo.

Finding records for my father's side has been very difficult. It was suggested that my father, Eduardo desousa, was not the son of the person whom I have always considered to be my grand father as the wedding of his "parents" was after he was born. Also, on my fathers birth certificate, it notes that his birth was registered in 1976, a year before we came to Canada. This is very odd to me as he was born in 1944. He also took his mother's name and not his father's. (All children born after took the father's name) Their names are Jose Rego and her name was Olivia camara de sousa. I know nothing besides that.

If anyone has any information, that would be great. Every time another page loads, I tell myself that this will be the page...

Thanks
Monica :)

Monica,

The title of your post contains the word Capelas, which is probably in reference to the one on Sao Miguel island.

In the body of your email, you do not mention Capelas once. You talk about Candelaria. Again, no island. There are 2 Candelarias in the Azores.

You need to state the island and make up your mind about which freguesia you are searching in.

They are all from the island of San Miguel. The males that I note (Manuel de Luz Revoredo and Jose Paiva), were from Capelas according to my mom. I have checked the records of that parish, Nossa Senhora da Apresentação, which is the one I was baptised in as well. In fact, I have checked all the baptismal records for all of the Ponta Delgada area for these men. The only record I was able to find was Manuel's wife, Maria Jorge in Candelaria.

I hope that is clearer. It was my first post and I wasn't sure of the proper protocol.

Thanks
Monica :)

With a name like Manuel da Luz, try looking in Fenais da Luz. They may have lived in Capellas but born or baptised elsewhere.

I am trying to follow your line but having difficulty. Can you lay it out in ancestor format?

1)- grandfather cc 2) grandmother

2 X 3 paternal greats
4 X 5 maternal greats

JR,
Thank you so much for taking an interest in my plight.

I'm very new to all things genealogy so I'm not clear as to the format you are asking. Therefore, I will break it down the best way I know how.

My maternal grandmother: Agueda Encarnacoa Revoredo
Her parents: Manuel de Luz Revoredo (B unknown, D approx 1973) -Parents unknown and Maria Jorge (B may 11, 1905 to Joao Jorge Vincente & Jacquina de forseca- birth record found in Candelaria) dies approx 1970

My maternal grandfather: Antonio Paiva b 1928 - d 1977
His parents: Jose Paiva (D approx 1958) and Maria do carmo pereira (D approx 1968)

It looks like I can go further with Maria Jorge's, but have been focussing on the men.

Unfortunately this is all I have to work with. I have notes of researching the area you suggest as I too thought the same thing. But it was not fruitful. I will try again. Maybe for the parents.

Capelas is where I am from and everyone died in Capelas. Paiva is from Sete Cidades. Revoredo unknown, and Pereira unknown. Can you say brick wall?? Very discouraging.
