One of the lots stuff...
the site does not permit me to send these links..it just lets me do the download or consult on line.
I just send an copy of one Will Book records, but can not send to azores google groups, because its too heavy.
In the last camp of research if you put the word
Testamentos
You will be given a list of all the books from the Municipal records you can research.
Wills are just a part.
If you have any doubts just write me.

Olá!
The island de São Jorge is just starting a project of Genealogy research by Misericórdia de Velas.
Also the Municipal Archive of Velas has been digitalized and can be found at
http://www.inforgeide.pt/cmvelas/
Remember it´s the records of the City Hall Of Velas.
But we can find a lot of interesting facts and and lots of lists with names.
If help is needed for tranlation, i am able to help.

Hi Yolanda,
Thank you for sending that link.......I looked through a few of the early records for 1558....the writing was so different from the other Sao Jorge records I've been researching....regardless, this will be a treasure trove of information to peruse in quiet moments!!!! Do you know if this is being put on line for Topo?

For Topo i don't even know that they have any historical records in their power. That is a good question!
Were they at any point City Hall? If yes then they shoul have municipal records of payments, land owners, fines, jail records, etc etc.
Next time i go there i will ask around.
Since that the Portuguese law for official records was to send everything to central power, that's way the records of baptism of Saint George were send to Angra do Heroismo. The records of Pico send to Faial.
And even nowadys there is Tons of azores records that just seat in Torre do Tombo and rot away......
I do believe tthat these records should retorne to Azores.
nowadays the aim is for the decentralization's, and believe that records shoud stay with their institutes.
I have to say, that in my professional opinion as an archiviste, that this web site and the records managmente is not the best. They sould have invested in a profissional archiviste at full time. Just puting stuff on line like they did.... With no research of the services.....but it´s just me...and my humble opinion.
I have to say that i was amazed with the number of people that gave away their children to the city hall powers, and they kept a tidy records of everyone, name, origin, married or not, etc etc i have found a lot a woman that were married but did not have the hability to take care of their child.
