Looking for my grandmother's family from St. Michael's.  Her father was August Furtado Pimentel (also spelled Pementel and Pemantell within the same family members here in US) born in St. Michael's approx. 1875.  His wife was Angelina DasMerces Estrella born about 1881.  They left from San Miguel Portugal in early 1900's and arrived in Bermuda and then onto New York and finally settled in Jamestown, Rhode Island.  Their children were John approx. 1899, Mary approx. 1901, Ruben approx. 1903, Manuel approx. 1905 all born in St. Michaels and Mary D'Estrella or Mary Fatado approx. 1906 born in Bermuda,  Frank 12/16/1907 in Bermuda, Lillian Esther or Estrella 7/11/1909 in Bermuda and Lucy Rose approx. 1911, Irene approx. 1913, James Ernest 2/15/1915, Albert 3/25/1917 and William August 5/19/1918 born in Jamestown, RI.  Any information you could forward would be helpful.

DWoodTax,

See if you can find them leaving the Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel after 1905.  Use Safari, IE, or Chrome.

Hi Again Donna,
So glad you are looking for your ancestors. All of these names you mentioned are people I knew on the island. (Jamestown, RI) I am excited that you are doing the research. I told Jim Pemantell (this is how Jim spells his name) that this list would be so helpful to him if he ever wanted to research his Sao Miguel ancestors as there seems to be more info here on Sao Miguel than any other island. How wonderful that you have taken on the task! As far as I know I have no connections to Sao Miguel but this list will certainly be able to help you. They are a wonderful group of people and so willing to share records and information.

Patricia,
Thank you for the info.  I am so glad to hear from you.  I will get in touch with Jim and see what additional info he may have that I am missing also.
This is a wonderful group.  In less than 24 hours I already have some information on my family.
Thanks so much!!!

Have you been able to find them in the 1910 & 1920 US Census? It may give you some more information. Looking at the childrens dates I would start with the 1920 Census.

Rick,

I didn't see August Furtado Pimentel under Francisco's children could we have missed one child? Or could the eldest, Margarida Augusta had a child out of wedlock. Or maybe Maria de Jesus and Francisco Pimentel had siblings that were married and had a son August Furtado Pimentel? It could be a reach, but you never know, right?

Hi Linda

I don’t believe this is related to our family.
