I'm having trouble deciphering this record and am hoping that others might be able to read it. It is the 1795 marriage record for Francisco Jose da Ponte and Rosalia de Jesus. I was actually looking for a Rosalina Maria and Francisco Jose da Ponte, but this was close enough that I thought it was worth recording. Am I right that the parents of Rosalia (or Rosalina?) are given but not for Francisco Jose? I can't make out all the names. It was scanned from the Ponta Garça film, but seems to start by mentioning the church in Ribeira Quente, so I'm confused. I appreciate any help with this!

Mary

The reason you don't see parents for Francisco Jose is because he is
listed as the widower of Joanna Francisca of Nossa Senhora de Piadade.
Rosalia de Jesus' parents are Manuel de Souza and Luzia? de Madruga?.

Mary,

As Rosemarie said, Francisco is a widower, so you'll need his first marriage to Joanna Francisca to get his parents.

I'm reading the bride's parents as Manuel da Souza and Luiza de Medeyros which is Medeiros today.

Ribeira Quente broke off from Ponta Garca.  That's why you see that in the record.

Thanks Cheri and Rosemarie,

It looks like a baptism date is also given (I see it as 22 March
1772), I assume for the bride, Rosalia de Jesus? Do you read it this
way? If so, it would be great because I would then have her birthdate.
She would have be 23 when she married, if I'm reading it right.

Mary,

I think you have the baptism date right.

Hi Mary: I looked up this record today. This is how I read it:

DOM: 21 May 1790, Ponta Garca, Sao Miguel, Azores (page 96R)
Francisco Jose da Ponte,
WIDOWER of Spouse #1 Joanna Francisca, buried N.S. Piedade (Ponta Garca)
SPOUSE
#2 Rosalia de Jesus
(Manoel de Sousa X Luzia de Medeiros)
Native & Baptised Ponta Garca on 22 March 1772

Then I found the following:

DOM 5 Nov 1794, Ponta Garca (91R)
Francisco Jose da Ponte, Bapt 15 Aug 1763 (probably in Ponta Garca)
(Andre de Medeiros, deceased X Ritta da Ponte)
SPOUSE
#1 Joanna Francisca de Mello, baptised in Ponta Garca on 8 Sept. 1769
(Jose de Medeiros Maciel X Anna de Mello)
natives NSP- Ponta Garca
TESTIMONY
Joam Pereira married with Anna Francisca
& Francisco Gomes do Amaral, single

Shirley in CA

Don't know if my first email went through. Are you researching in Ponta Garca? I have a very large database form there as that is my home village. Whom are you tracking, perhaps I can help you.

JR,
I sent an attachment to your email address. Did you get it? Sometimes
the attachment slows transmission.

The Ponta Garça relatives are my ggrandmother's side of the family.
This couple is Francisco Jose da Ponte and Rosalina Maria, married
1795. If this is the right Rosalina (or Rosalia), parents of both were
cited above in Shirley Allegre's message.
Rosalia (born about 1772, died before 1828): Manoel de Sousa X Luzia
de Medeiros
Francisco Jose da Ponte (died after 1828): Andre de Medeiros X Ritta
da Ponte
Francisco was married the first time in 1794 to Joanna Francisca de
Mello (born 1769).

The children of Francisco Jose and Rosalina Maria included
Maria Rita (born about 1809); died 3 Jan 1873, Ponta Garça), who
married Francisco Carreiro (born about 1807, Ribeira Grande). I think
you gave me more about the children of Maria Rita and Francisco
Carreiro.

If you have anything else on these people, that would be great.

Mary
