I am trying to find a SSDI record for a US Citizen who died age 80 at his summer home in 1995 in Mexico.  He is buried in the US and collected Social Security.

I cannot find him on SSDI records.  Even though he died in Mexico shouldn't he still be listed on SSDI if he collected it?

Not neccessarily. Sometimes it's only people who were reported dead and
benefits were paid out to someone.

I think they only show up if you notify the social security that you want to collect the one time death benefit of $255.00.  My mother didn't show up, then I told my sister (who was handling all of the finances to my mother) to notify social security of the one time death benefit and she did then my mother showed up on the social security death records search.
