Olá

The Teves surname is intertwined mainly throughout my mothers maternal line. The Teves are also found in a few other places in my family ancestry but not like my mothers maternal line where they show up in either marriage or as witnesses. This surname is very mysterious to me so I always try to find any information on them.

I came across this record with the name Teves in it. It looks like Mathray Teves? I also think I see the word david? freguisa? Pentitentia? patriarch? decree? And the signature looks like Rebello?

Any help would be appreciated. I have been trying to learn to read these records better. I'm curious if this sheds any light on the Teves family.

If anyone has any information on the Teves from São Miguel would love to hear it.

It's a death for Mathias Teves.  I think your "david" is da vida - of this life.  Is your ancestor Mathias Teves?

I don't think Mathias is a direct descendant no but I was hoping that the record would give me some insight on the Teves family as a whole. I saw the word Patriarch and was hoping that since it is an early record it would shed some information on the Teves family.

The Teves in my family were all mariners and my mother was told a story that parts of her family were not originally from the Azores but someplace before that.

Thanks

My Teves come mainly from Sao Jose.

the oldest Teves I have the most information on is:

Luis de Teves
Luis, son of António de Teves and his wife Florência Jacinta, both native of São José, Ponta Delgada, was born on 21 January 1778 and was baptized on the 26th,in São José, Ponta Delgada. Godfather was José Francisco, married, who lives inSão Sebastião, Ponta Delgada. Witnesses were Manuel da Silva and AntónioPereira.

Marriage record:
On 23 December 1798, in São José, Ponta Delgada, Luis Francisco, son of António deTeves, deceased, and Florência Jacinta, married to Clara de Jesus, daughter of Agostinho da Cunha and Inácia Francisca, both native of São José, PontaDelgada. Witnesses were João da Cunha, married, living in São Pedro, PontaDelgada, and João de Teves, married living in São José, Ponta Delgada. They received the blessings later, because they married during the Advent.

I know many teves immigrated to Hawaii.

I looked in my PC, but did not find any of the names that you mention.
Did any of your Teves go to Hawaii?

I do not have records of them traveling to Hawaii but I have DNA matches in Hawaii to people with Teves in their family. So at some point members of the family traveled there. Maybe in the mid to late 1800's.

If you like I can send you a report on the all my Teves from my RootsMajicprogram?
