Hello,
I am researching any connection regarding our family names from Sao
Jorge:
Anna Silveira B:5-1859 Parents1. Joaquin Jose Teixeira. Isabel
Silveira De Encaracao
Isabel Silveira De Encaracao Parents 1. Raymond Jose Azevedo 2.
Beatrice Rosa. Other family names related to this group are D'Avila
and Jose Raulino Azevedo Beatrice Rosa

Antone/Antonio Enos Avila B :11-1855 Parents Frank Enos and Anna
Isabel Vargas.

Anna Silveira and Antone are my g-grandparents they came to US/
California in late 1800's Antone took name of Avila when arrived here.
I have most of my family tree that is available on line but get stuck
going backwards to the Azores.

Thanks,
Larry

Some of those names match with some of my São Jorge relatives as well.  I'll see what I can find in my line.

Hi Larry,

My Sao Jorge lines carry several of these names.....I have Manuel de Avila Texeira, also have Teixeira Baptista for many generations, many, many da Silveira's, da Sousa Baptista's and da Sousa Pereira's. Most of these are from Velas, Beira, Rosaias, and Topo.

Larry, I checked what I had and I don't think I have what you are
looking for. I do have a Silveira line but it center around Rosa Luisa
Silveira and Rosa Faustina Silveira. I do have a Beatrice Rosa de
Jesus b.2 March 1785 married Raimundo Jose Teixeira. This family is
all from Ribeira Seca, Sao Jorge.

Don't have information for you, but am researching my great grandfather who immigrated from Sao Jorge about 1890.  His name was Jose (Joseph) F Silveira Fuzila born November 1869.  I do not know where the family lived on Sao Jorge.  Joseph lived in Clarksburg/Freeport, CA and I learned from his obituary (1912) that he had a brother, John Silveira, who lived in Vallejo, CA at that time, and a sister, "Mrs. Benedaro" who lived in Sausalito, CA at that time.  His death certificate lists his father as John Silveira and his mother as Mariano Floringo.  Anyone have any information about this family?

Hello,

As soon as I red this post I found these names very familiar, Looked on my data and there they were. I just have a question before I send you anything. I have the Ana you mention, dying in 1884. Is she your ancestor?? Or a sibling?

Hi Karen and all,
First thank all of of you for helping. I havent encountered such a
kind helpful group of folks before. Seems like we are all just trying
to find our Azorean roots.
Karen,
I need to look a little closer at what Marcio posted for me but I do
feel there is a connection. Im looking at each response and then
responding. My records I do believe are mostly from gathered info from
relatives.Names could be shortened and dates off some.
I have a Beatrice Rosa born between 1790-1805 there abouts;Spouse is
Raymond Jose Azevedo;Father Jose Raulino Azevedo;mother is Avila or
De,da,D'avila? Has daughter Isabel Silveira De Encarcacao.

Marcio,
Sorry for the late thankyou for the information. I do feel these are
my family members.
I did check with a cousin and she said that she has come across the
date 1884 also but that is incorrect. Ana,my g-grandma immigrated to
the states 5/21/1883.Through Boston then to California. She brought her
oldest son Manuel Enos Avila. 7/19/1878. also My g-grandfather Antone
Enos Avila came before her .1877 and was naturalized 7/28/1888 in
Contra Costa Co. CA...Ana died in Stockton Ca.2/28/1910 buried in San
Joaquin Catholic Cemetery.Date of birth is 5/1859, Dates of course on
everything might not be exact.
Antonio Enos Avila Born 11/23/1855 died 09/24/1926 Stockton Ca..His
parents Frank Enos and Anna Isabel Vargas..Names could possibly be
shortened. Antonio had three brothers that took different last names
when arriving in States. John Enos Born 11/1/1854 Santo Amaro Sao
Jorge, arrive in States 1873, 1880 census shows John in Murray alameda
Co CA. ; Frank Enos Vargas Born 4/14/1859, we do beleive he arrived in
1878 Pennsylvania possibly naturalized in 1881;

I might be double posting info.you had asked about Ana.
Parents Joaquin Jose Teixeira and Isabel Silveira De Encaracao. Ana/
Anna's siblings:
Gernamo D'Avila Born Bet 1840-1865
Antonio Joseph D'Avila Born Bet "same"
Mariana Da Encarnacao Born Bet "same"
Philip D'Avila Born ABT 1857, Death ABT 1927
Anna/Ana Silveira My g-grandma
Antonio M Silva

What you have sent me matches what I have so this must be my family.

Thank you

Hi Adair,
I do and is below. Not sure how accurate. He was my ggrandma's brother.
Born about 1864. I assume Sao Jorge. Possibly married to a "Rosie" born about 1876; Marriage about 1896. Immigrated in 1884. Are you a relative? I might be able to get more information from a cousin of mine.

To family of Enos,

There are quite a few buried outside of Stockton, Ca near Escalon, Ca and Manteca, Ca. If you go to www.findagrave.com.
Go to cemetery lookup tab. Enter St.John's Catholic Cemetery in the country:USA, state:Ca, county:San Joaquin. I just entered the last name and George Enos, John Enos, Maria Enos, Michael Enos to name a few came up. Hope this helps in your search. The name of the church beside the cemetery is St.Patricks, Hwy 120, the town is either Escalon or Manteca.

This cemetery has a lot of Portuguese buried there. My grandparents and great grandparents (Silva) are buried there.

Much Success,
Robin Lebo

Hi Robin,
Thanks for the info and I will check. I grew up in the Manteca area. My uncle is buried in that cemetery also. Im not that familiar with that particular cemetery although is on the way to Escalon. Many of my family members are buried in San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery in Stockton. My g-grandparents  Antone and Anna are there. I am very familiar with the Silva name in Manteca. At one time before all the Bay Area folks started moving over Manteca was small enough to almost know or know of someone. Especially if Azorean.

I will look at the cemetery records you mentioned,

Thanks

Something doesn't look right.

Since you mentioned the parish of Santo Amaro I researched there and found some interesting records. I found a marriage between an Antonio Inacio (was common change Inacio to Enos when emmigrated) getting married November 30 1876 to a Ana Silveira, in the record said he was 21 and she was 19. He was son of Francisco Inacio Goulart and of Ana Isabel Vargas and Ana was daughter of Joaquim Machado da Silveira and Maria Josefa.
Antonio and Ana had a son Manuel, born July 19 1877,in that same parish of St. Amaro exactly one year before the Manuel you mention. This is 2 much coincidence for not to be them
Now I have a question, in which records were you based to give your Ana as daughter of Joaquim Jose Teixeira and Isabel da Encarnacao?

Repost for Larry, soccer4dad2000 at yahoo.com

Marcio,

What is difficult to understand is why my family would have this other
information. I dont know where they would get it but that said I see
what you are saying in regards to the documents you have found. I
still am waiting to communicate with manuel's granddaughter about him.
I do that some of the family names came from documents. Ive never
heard of Josefa or Goulart in our family. I am greatful that you have
provided us with this information. I will check with the family to see
if we can figure it out. So many have passed away it might be
difficult.

Do you have any other information on:
" Francisco Inacio Goulart and Ana Isabel Vargas and Ana was daughter
of Joaquim Machado da Silveira and Maria Josefa."

Much thanks,

Larry
