Hi Tyler,

Tell me more about how to open your attachment.  My computer isn't recognizing the format.

Thanks,
Fred Souza

What program did you use to create the file with your souse Family Tree.uzed? Is it a GEDCOM file?

Thank you,

I would think if you want to know anything about the Sousa family in Stonington, Henrietta Mayer, who moniters this list would be very helpful to you.  Maybe she has seen your post and has already called you.

.uzed

It appears to be something used by Family Tree Builder...

From MyHeritage...

We may be seeing more of this.

Hi,

I know Henrietta quite well, and there isn't much that she knows about my family that hasn't already been shared; however, that doesn't really answer my question that whatever the format is that you used, I can't  open it, and apparently, I am not the only one since Marilyn is asking about the format.  If the format is one that I won't be able to get to without purchasing a program that is fine, but I thought maybe there was a way to get to look at the data.

Thanks,

Frederick Souza

Tyler S,

Every genealogy program out there as their own format that you save.  You do your work on your tree (apparently in Family Tree Builder), hit File -> Save and it saves it as a .uzed.  Those using Family Tree Maker hit File -> Save and I think it saves as .ftm  Mine get saved as .pjc.

So with all these software programs on the market with their proprietary inner workings can't talk to each other.  So that's when the LDS Church came up with the GEDCOM format (GEnealogy Data COMmunication).  All genealogy software programs have the ability to read and create a GEDCOM.

The GEDCOM format is a bit dated now.  So not everything you've done will come through (pictures, attachments of an ancestor's death certificate, etc).  But the basics will.

In just about any genealogy program, go to File -> Export.  Somewhere in there is an option to export as a GEDCOM (and if it asks, it's version 5.5).

Now Tyler, just to be sure, you want to send your database out to this list of 1100 people and anyone who sees the file in the archive/web board/forum?  Or would you rather state the name of the couple from Sao Jorge, their freguesia and birth dates and then do the same for your ancestors from Terceira?  Those that have those surnames from those locations can then contact you directly and you can send a Gedcom to them.

Tyler,

Oscar is a very unusal name for a Portuguese. I would go to the CCA Website, www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt/ig, and go to each village and check the baptisms for 1900 for an Oscar son of Francisco. There are not that many village in Sao Jorge to check out.

Tyler,

Nothing to apologize about--best wishes to you, and perhaps we will find a connection sometime.
