Hi everyone

For reasons that are not entirely clear (at the moment!) I have taken over the administration of the Atlantic Crossing Group for 2016-2017.

I'm just learning how to use Google Groups and Documents so please bear with me, and feel free to give me any feedback if somethings not quite right!

We are currently wintering in Lagos Marina and plan to cruise to Gibraltar in Spring.  The plan is then to cruise to Madeira and the Canaries around June/July.

I haven't yet committed to an Atlantic crossing  but it's becoming more and more likely, so I thought it would be useful to meet other sailors with similar plans, thoughts, etc to ours.

If anyone is receiving emails from previous years and wants to be removed from the list, please email and I'll work out how to do this.

Please keep in touch, the benefits of sharing information and collaborating are immense, I now remember why I volunteered to manage this group this year!

Best wishes, Fair Winds,

Jackie

Hi Jackie,
I am currently in the Caribbean. Is there a group for returning to Europe this year?

Best regards,

Hi Steve

For transat discussion, weather thoughts and so on...

In Antigua perhaps make contact with Dan on Skylark if he's there - a number of boats return to Europe from there after Antigua Week.  Boats in Antigua can be under pressure to return ASAP for racing commitments so they might well go sooner rather than later.

In St Martin/Sint Maarten, expect a more cautious approach - boats will leave  from May but more likely June.  The radio net on ch 10 at 0730 will have a number of boats planning a crossing and st martin is perhaps a better starting point for supermarkets and boatfixing etc.  Good contact is Mike aka "Quinn" who has made at least 26 solo transat trips on a 30 footer, beating my pathetic 13 crossings almost all with crew...

Fair winds

Matt

A sister group to this group has recently been set up for boats wanting to travel west to east across the Atlantic. Click here to view it.

We'll be in Marina Lanzarote, Arrecife on and off during August as we have family visiting, then we've booked in for September and will be taking advantage of the Jimmy Cornell presentations which we have been told we can attend even though we're not signed up for the rally.  Might see you around, have a great sail across, Jackie, Rivalady

We are very disappointed to report that we will not be crossing this year. Unfortunately Nanni made some terrible errors installing a new engine in our yacht. We still don't have a working engine.
We'd set off from Greece and had happily done 3 nights at sea, using my new Kindle. So at least we should be already to go next year.
We are happy to stay on the on the list as that all helps with our planning.
Hope you all have a great crossing
Katie & Steve yacht ROB
P.S. We're off to India by land instead.

Sorry to hear your news. I know from your postings over the last few months how hard you have worked to prepare for your crossing. We have also decided not to to cross this year, although we may cross as crew in January. No problem staying in the group, you can stay with us as long as you need to.
Enjoy India!
