Hi Astropy community!

We are writing to introduce ourselves, the Organizational Mycology team. Our work for Astropy is focused on building capacity and support for community leadership and engagement activities led by Beryl Kanali, Astropy’s new Community Manager, as she gets started in her new role. We have a mix of backgrounds in social science, open science leadership, and community engagement and we’re excited about the opportunity to help Astropy develop new ways to extend its reach, enhance the diversity of contribution, and grow impact. We will be supporting a community survey, better understanding community engagement and leading an effort to revisit and review the code of conduct as a community.

We are a team of researchers and practitioners composed of Dan Sholler, Beth Duckles, and Jonah Duckles. We work to help open science organizations to grow their communities, reach, and impacts. You can read more about us here. Each of us have worked as leaders and advisors to open science communities and we are passionate about how community-driven organizations can create sustaining impacts. We use the tools of qualitative research, facilitation and community engagement to support organizations with their goals.

Even with our experience, every community is different, and an important component of the work we do is to listen closely to the Astropy community to ensure that we support your needs. Our purpose is to serve this community and help gather and transform your ideas into outputs and research; in other words, we are here to help the community learn from itself. It’s essential that you drive the direction of this effort, so we are going to be asking for a few volunteers to help out as we develop these tools and would appreciate your feedback as we go.

Our virtual door is open to engage at anytime at in...@orgmycology.com drop us a line and say hello.

Regards,
The OM Team – Dan, Beth, and Jonah
