Hi,

thanks for your ear :-)

Situation:
Astronomy.net online page shows the object of interest in the annotated image (NGC 7000). The center of the object is not within the image.

(image temporaryly made vsisible, content is copyrighted material: http://nova.astrometry.net/user_images/4258515#annotated - Copyright: Yannick Akar 2020, https://www.astrobin.com/373826/?nc=use ) .

Expected behaviour:
The object NGC 7000 is part of the annotated image at astrometry.net and therefore should be also part of the  annotations info.

NGC7000-2020-12-30 23_29_36-Astrometry.net.png

Errors:
The annotations don't show the object: http://nova.astrometry.net/api/jobs/4824414/annotations , only stars:

{"annotations": [{"type": "hd", "names": ["HD 199580"], "pixelx": 2434.8601208619893, "pixely": 141.36468572431147, "radius": 0.0},
[...]
{"type": "hd", "names": ["HD 200407"], "pixelx": 246.3550087463518, "pixely": 1447.0871923927798, "radius": 0.0}]}

Therefore the image is not shown in a custom program (website), only the stars:

NGC7000-2020-12-30 23_29_36-Program.png

Question:
Why astrometry .net page shows the NGC 7000 and it can be seen in the annotated image, whereas the annotation data shows nothing. I think, this is a common case, that an object-centre is not within the image. This is the case with a lot of big deep sky objects.

I wish anyone a happy new year:

Thanks for you reply. Any help would be appreciated.
Axel

Post script: I added a custom tag for the image on astrometry.net. Therefore the NGC 7000 tag is visible.

This seems to be related to: https://groups.google.com/g/astrometry/c/X1RHe22C7nY where Dustin referred to ther user to download the "annotated_full" image. Also in my case the shows the correct result, but only the image, not the data (http://nova.astrometry.net/annotated_full/4824414 ).

Isn't there something like an api call for the "annotations_full" data?
Why do the online data differ from the api data?

Happy new year
Axel

Thanks for the bug report.  I filed it as an issue

I'm sure it's because the object is just off the edge of the image, but touching it; probably the code cuts to objects strictly within the image.

cheers,

THX Dustin :-) I am in contact with a developer of a Wordpress plugin, there we discovered the problem.
Happy new year.

Cheers Axel
