Basic Encaustic with Judy Klich
Come see what all the BUZZ is about!! Indulge your CREATIVE side!
Beginners and seasoned artists welcome! You will learn how LUSCIOUS and VERSATILE the world of encaustic is and BEE introduced to more advanced techniques. Encaustic is an ancient medium made with combining beeswax, oil paint and resin to make encaustic medium. Students will learn many different techniques including incising, scraping, layering wax, using stencils, metal imprinting tools and fusing with a heat gun and torch. Demonstrations of each technique will be done as well as photo transfer techniques. History, safety and setting up your own studio are all covered in this workshop. Each student will take home 2 small sample paintings and one larger painting ready to hang.

Waxing Poetic with Encaustic Instructor: Judy Klich
Bring your favorite quotes, inspirational words and poems along with family and vacation photos to combine the two using the ancient medium of encaustic. Beeswax, paint and resin combine to give you a luminous surface with which to transfer and embed your images ready for text. Various methods including transferring, letterpress, and stamping will be demonstrated to bring your photos to life. Any wording you want to use as a transfer will need to be a mirrored laser copied image. All photo images for the transfer technique need to be laser copies – black and white is preferred. **This workshop would be great for a Mother / Daughter (10 and up) duo **

Finding that Zing in Your Work with Judy Klich
Have you ever felt that your work was missing something or just didn’t seem balanced or finished? This workshop will take you through all the BASICS OF DESIGN AND COMPOSITION to help you understand what you may be missing. We will cover how you can use the ELEMENTS of design to make a real statement with your work and lastly how design plays a huge role in controlling and ordering those elements to create a dynamic piece of art! Students are required to bring 5-10 pieces for discussion. They do not have to be finished and in fact would be great if they weren’t done. Any medium is welcome. Bring a sketchbook and plan for a lively discussion!

Photography and Encaustic with Judy Klich
Take you photography to a whole new level by using encaustic! Using your own images and learn various methods for transferring and printing on different materials to incorporate photos into your work. Additional techniques such as glazing, scraping and using stencils, oil pastels, metal impressions to enhance your work will be demonstrated. Students will bring laser copied images in black and white and color to class along with digital images on a USB drive to print in class on various materials. Images can be anything you want. You are not limited to photography..think outside the box! Additional supply fee is included.

Tools and Textures with Encaustic with Judy Klich
Explore all of the HOT tools, metal objects and stencils I have collected to get CRAZY, FUN TEXTURE into your wax. Use tar, plaster and all types of fabric to create dramatic extra thick texture. Some of my hot tools include batik writer, hot tips and different size flat irons. We will use all of them. If you LOVE the three-dimensional effects of heavy wax textures this class is for you!! Bring any natural string, textured paper and fabrics to class to use and any metal objects for impressions! Don’t worry though my studio is full of supplies for your use!
