Hi Amy,

Thanks for including a screen shot of your command prompt.

About halfway down the image you'll see: ERROR: Arches requires psql.  This error means that either you still need to install PostgreSQL/PostGIS, or you need to start the database.

Cheers,

Dennis

PostgreSQL/PostGIS is install and the database that was created (the template) is visible. May I ask what you mean by starting the database?

Hi Amy, a way to test whether you'll encounter this error is to just run "psql" in the windows command prompt, because that's what the install process is trying to do.  It looks like your path variable is set correctly, but it's worth double-checking.  If it doesn't work, first thing would be to double-check your path variable (though what you posted looks good).

I just ran the psql in the command prompt, when it asks for my password, and I put it in it reads

psql: FATAL: password authentication failed for user "amyu"

which is a bit strange because I doublechecked to make sure I was typing it in correctly and even changed it in the program to make sure.  I'll keep digging for an answer, but if anyone has thoughts that would be helpful.

Thank you!!!!!

Here Amy, try these commands to check out what Dennis meant about starting the database: http://www.postgresql.org/docs/9.3/static/app-pg-ctl.html

I guess this is where I must be getting a bit turned around.

When I tried the any of those commands in the Command Prompt it told me that pg_ctl is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I can attach a screen shot, if needed.

should i not have run it in command prompt?

That is strange, because for me, pgsl and pg_ctl are both in the 9.3/bin directory, and I assume with your 9.3.1 version it would be the same.  It seems that the pg_ctl command is still the correct way to handle those controls in 9.3.1, so maybe just go into the file system and check that there isn't something strange with your install directories?

Hi Kasun,
You need to activate you virtual environment from the Scripts folder not the my_hip_app folder.
Once you do that you should be able to runserver from the my_hip_app folder.
Cheers,
Alexei
