It's not my responsibility to collaborate with
them (or any group).
It's up to them to contribute back what they
have done. I've asked them, but no reply.
If they don't want to do, I can't help.

Hi,

Firstly, I would like to thank Chih-Wei and all contributors in
android-x86 projects. You guys rock!

I myself have lenovo s10-3t and made some modifications based on
android-x86-2.2 froyo release. So far, touch

driver works, but somehow stuck at
wpa_supplicant issue). I would like to contribute my changes. Is it
possible to attach patch files on this groups

Hi all,

Please find the details for lenovo s10-3t build below.

1. Port over broadcom wireless driver to android-x86.
Modified the android-x86 kernel to compile this as module. Patch the "0001-added-lenovo-s103t-wireless-driver-broadcom-4313.patch" and "0002-Added-lenovo-s103t-wireless-driver-as-module.patch" over kernel/ project.

>patch -p0 -i 0002-Added-lenovo-s103t-wireless-driver-as-module.patch

2. Create a new device project "device/lenovo/s103t".
Please extract device-lenovo.tar.gz to "device/lenovo/s103t".
>cd android-x86/device
>tar xvfz device-lenovo.tar.gz

3. Patch for slow graphic issue on I915 chip.
>cd android-x86/bootable/newinstaller
>patch -p0 -i 0001-Using-16bit-mode-to-fix-slow-graphics-on-I915.patch

4. Wifi patch. It doesn't fully work, see known issue below.
>cd android-x86/build
>patch -p0 -i 0001-Wireless-fix.patch

5. Optional:
- Fix to enable logcat.
- Fix for debug mode.
- Fix for /data doesn't exists.
>cd android-x86/bootable/newinstaller
>patch -p0 -i 0002-Fixed-init-script-failed-debug-logcat-data.patch

6. Build
>cd android-x86
>source build/envsetup.sh
>lunch s103t-eng

Known issues:
- Wifi cannot connect to detected APs.

I hope someone can help to fix the Wifi issue. I have research both on this group and elsewhere to no avail.

Hi,
Thanks for the efforts. However,
seems I just got two configurations for s10-3t.
(Oliver sent me privately)

Did you work independently?
Could you sync with each other

Thanks a lot!

I got a little confused... I just started today to try and use Android
on my Lenovo S10-3t using the generic built only to see that the
camera, wifi and touch features were not working... so i started
searching for any workaround and i got to this group.

I was wondering if there will be any available bulits for lenovo
s10-3t as for the Asus tablet pc's..???? I sure hope so :D

Anyways, good work on making thing clear, i managed to install and run
everything from the first attempt! -Except Robill's conf workaround,
i'm a win user :(-

Hi David,

Chih-Wei will review the configuration we (Oliver & me) have submitted once he gets some time.
As to my previous workaround, I have found out that one only needs step 1, 2 before building (step 6)
to get wifi, touch and camera working. Steps 3, 4 and 5 are due to my own mistake trying to build
on NTFS file system (somehow the symbolic links are stripped off and hence the weird errors). It
will run fine if one build on ext2 file system. However the kernel is not optimized here.

Robill

Hi Robill!

Thank you for your response. I'm not savy at all when it comes to
building images, i guess you are using some kind of linux dist which
i've never used (and now regret).

Would it be be a total imposition if i ask you to please upload the
built to http://www.megaupload.com/ (or any other place where i could
download as .iso to create the bootable USB)?

And lastly, you would then recommend to install on NTFS or ext2?

Thanks, and sorry, if you can't find the time i would understand

Hello Robill,
I have been following this thread. I would also appreciate if you could apply
your patches to the kernel and then post a link to it someplace where other less
linux saavy lenovo owners could get it.

Thank you,

AJ

Hi there,
Thanx a lot for this build!

I have S10-3t with N550 processor, so I believe I have other wireless card than you guys. It seems to find network, even authenticate to it, but when it comes to get IP there is nothing more...
Any ideas?

And... If one of buttons on display (except mute button) can be escape/back button then s10-3t can be a real slate =)

Try the following to prevent disconnection. If this doesn't fix, then no idea, need to debug it (never encounter
this myself before) :

1. boot android
2. at the android "unlock" screen, pres Alt-F1 to go to the console.
3. press "enter" a few times to get a clear prompt.
4. run the following command (note that '>' symbolizes a prompt here):
> setprop wifi.supplicant_scan_interval 120
5. press Alt-F7 to go back to the GUI
6. disable LAN network
7. enable Wifi and connect to internet

Actually we have put this already inside the init script. But I need to check again.
Hopefully the workaround above solve your problem.

Robill

Hey Robill,

Thanks for uploading the iso. Everything works perfect except the
camera and a few things with the keyboard. With a few minor
adjustments I really see myself using android on my lenovo s10-3t full
time.
I have a quick question that I hope you can answer.

How do you use more than 2gb of internal storage? My lenovo s10--3t
has a 60GB SSD in it and I created a 25 gb partition for android. In
the setup for android it only lets me dedicate 2gb to internal phone
storage? Do you know if it is possible to use the whole partition?

Hi,
"Everything works perfect except the camera and a few things with the keyboard."
Could you elaborate? You need to plug in a thumbdrive to function as sdcard in order for the camera to work. Video capture doesn't work though.

"How do you use more than 2gb of internal storage? My lenovo s10--3t

I am not sure about internal storage, may be Chih-Wei could help you on this. I only know you can specify a data partition at startup. When you see the grub menu you can edit the command line by pressing tab, then add a parameter, e.g.:

DATA=/dev/sda1

that data partition should be ext2 filesystem. It will be mounted later at /data.

Hey Robill,
Nevermind about the keyboard. I just had to change the language to US
english and disable the default onscreen keyboard.

Also, Is it possible to utilize the buttons that are located to the
left of the screen? If it's possible to give them functionality and it
something that won't take hours to do could someone try the changes
below?

1st button (with finger): short press = Back (same as escape button) /
long press = menu
2nd button (square) : Rotates screen
3rd button (sound): this already works so no changes are needed here
really.

Besides that the only problems I am having is that some applications
will randomly rotate the screen to portrait and I don't know how to
set back to landscape without exiting the application. Even if there
is a software method to rotate the screen it is probably beneficial to
make the 2nd button to the left of the screen make the screen rotate.
(Then the s10-3t could really be used as a tablet)

Thanks again for all your work on this guys. Keep it up.

Try recreating the bootable usb with unetbootin and then try again:

I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the iso as several of us are using

OK I also got same problem and just figured out a solution here from
this link;

http://groups.google.com/group/android-x86/browse_thread/thread/cd291bcdc6abd25f/85c30e6837ca3b58?lnk=gst&q=install+problem#85c30e6837ca3b58

Here is my solution;
1. After booting using bootable live USB flash, you must select #3
option (install to hard disk) not #1 (boot w/o installation) or #2.
2. So you need to install it on hard disk or another USB or SD thing
(in my case, used USB flash drive --> it must be different one from
first bootable USB drive. In other words, got two different USB flash
drives plugged for installation).
3. Don't try to format disk during installation. Just prepare pre-
formatted USB flash or SD card using FAT32 (I don't know why but ext3
or ntfs wouldn't work for me...) and install the image WITHOUT format.
4. Install a boot loader GRUB
5. Create a disk image to save data and etc (~maximum 2048 MB)
6. Reboot using the disk installed

The above steps worked like a charm for me. Thanks Robill, your works
were really great!

Regarding wifi problem, I found a person who got the solution worked
here;

http://groups.google.com/group/android-x86/browse_thread/thread/b7007dd69d3fb384/92922936343b1e04#92922936343b1e0

One useful tip for tablet mode (kinda of soft keys for home, menu, and
back) is here;

http://www.android-x86.org/documents/touch-only-device-howto

You guys should be aware this is my first post :)

Followed your instructions and finally got Android installed, wifi
working, and touch screen working. Thanks!!!

I was wondering if anyone knows why this only works with Fat32? I
tried to format ext3 so I could have a read/write system, but always
get an error 17 when trying to boot into android. With it formated as
fat32 Ive also tried remount,rw thru adb connect over wifi, but I cant
figure out the correct command to get the system writable.
Here are my steps:

I installed to a usb stick, that was originally formatted fat32, didnt
reformat, created disk img, and rebooted. Everything works fine. Then
I connected via adb with another computer over wifi. Typed in:

mount -o remount, rw -t vfat /dev/sdb1 /system

and I get: Permission Denied

I really wanna get the market working, and flash installed, but I need
read/write to system in order to do this!! ANY help would be greatly
appreciated!!!!!!!

Thank you for the build.

I managed to install after I read the previous posts and some comments
on internet.
The s10-3t androidx86 distro cannot be installed with ubuntu, at least
not automatically.
First the androidx86 use Grub and latest linux use Grub2, to solve
manually, please read:
http://xtor.warp.es/?p=1067

Broadcom wireless can be enabled only after ethernet card is disabled.
Keyboard is US, and I am looking for hint to change as UK.
The card-reader and webcam does not work, probably lack of drivers.

I would like to test the Gingerbread 2.3.3 because the SIP/VoIP
included.
I did not found any other VoIP for androidx86.

Great work untill now.

Waiting for the next release and hope some day S10-3T will run with
Androidx86 as first option...

Everyone, I have the solution for home, menu, back buttons. Button
Savior is the best app for this. It is always on top, no matter which
app, and never FC's! I will be uploading a video to Youtube of my
success with the android build that Robill T. Supatrio created!

Button Savior Download (can download from Android):

For anyone who tries to format to ext3 and gets "Error 17", I believe
it is because you cannot format an existing partition that is NTFS
into ext3 with the installer, although it does not give you an error
message when you try it. I experienced the same problem on an S103t. I
had created a dedicated partition in Windows by shrinking an existing
partition. When I tried to format that partition during install, it
acted like it worked but the Android build returned "Error 17" and
when I looked iin Windows, the partition still showed up as NTFS.

I solved this problem by using Gparted to create the ext3 partition,
then installed Android-x86 after that onto the new ext3 partition.
Everything worked after that, you can even format the partition during
the install once you create it. GParted can be flashed onto a USB just
like Androidx-86.

You are right. i had some issues similar to what you've mentioned. The
installer creates an image on windows based partiotions in order to
store data. The installer does not format a NTFS or FAT32 partition to
EXT3. However, if the partition is formatted ext3 before installing
there is no problem in any situation.
For those who like to install android-x86 on a sdhc card i strongly
recommend them to format the sdhc card as EXT3, because if not
formatted a sdhc card can be seen as 4 seperate partitions!! which
prevents installing.
If you like to format any drive or sdcard on windows, Acronis disk
director makes it perfectly.

Hello,

I realldy don't want to slow down your ethusiasm, but the WeTab community is even having tripple or quatrupple boot, with Windows 7 Android, Windows 8 Consumer Preview, X86 ICS 4.0.4 ARM, WeTab OS, and some kind of Linux-OSes (Ubuntu, Yawn-OS, etc.). I am happy like you, just with Windows 7 and ICS 4.0.4 ARM. :-P

What is up!? @Lenovo s10-3t & android-x86 tricksters! ^,^

I've had my 'ideaPad' for some time now, I did the 2gb ram upgrade once I got it, but never really did much to it or with it unless I was on the go...
last month I 'inherited' a 120gb SSD and didn't have a use for it in my desktops so I had to target the s10-3t. I found how easy it was to install and started loving this lil' champ even more with it's improved performance.
After a few stumbles looking for more tips about this 'netbook' ,  I found some s10-3t guru's on the web like "Jessie B" , "Chih-Wei" , "GunStar" , "robill" , and a few others who have contributed to the tips, tricks, and builds for this sweet target. I then took the time to do the research for myself and learn the process to make my s10-3t dual boot with win7 and android, after some trial and error and lots of browsing/searching the web for answers....
~ I was able to get it stable ~
I find it unreal that my s10-3t can dual boot with Windows Ultimate and android-x86-4.0-RC1-s103t.iso I feel like a kid with the coolest toy!
I'd say mostly everything works under android, performance/response is amazingly fast with the SSD and 2gb RAM, wireless, card reader, fn+keys works fine...
but for some of the items that do not work, I simply couldn't find any updates on the known issues. Out of all the s10-3t & android-x86 searches, this group is by far the most up to date (since February/March)
I'm eager for an updated build for our favorite target and hope to see a new android-x86 that will run it flawlessly.

Wish List for the new s10-3t build:

- How to root or make apk's install-open-run ~ without the "X has stopped working" error
- Power Button - Hold for 2 sec = will ask to power off or reboot   Tap = Screen Lock
- LCD buttons: Natural Touch = Home  |  Screen Rotate = Back  |  Audio Button: TAP = toggle mute on/off
- Accelerator - for tilt, shake, and true automatic screen rotation.
- Recovery Button = could be a spare for something clever ... ?
- Ethernet
- USBs
- o please o please

In a few days I'll be posting a video on my site www.gameface101.com of what I've done to the s10-3t.
I'm hoping that every s10-3t owner out there is pushing their little ideaPad to the limit like we are and that this specific community will grow. +

I just got this thing to triple boot with Win8cp ~ runs well. Still I simply can't wait for a newer and more solid android-x86 build specific for this target.
Still discovering more builds, tips, tricks, will I ever be able to put this toy down?
