If you would take the time to have a listen (particularily to tracks like
"Hoodoo Voodoo Doll") you might just realize that this "Rock-a-Billy
Freak" can swing - and better than most. The fact that a band like
The Johnny Favourite Swing Orchestra is breaking in America is a
phenomenon I can't fathom. So instead of dissing legitimate artists
who know their craft and probably listening to neo-swing garbage,
go to the source ........... I'm pretty sure that's what Brian did ........

Joe Jackson's "Jumpin' Jive"
Anything by "The Jivewires"

and the Rhumba Bums and Mighty Blue Kings for a taste of R&B (Or Jump
Blues).
Brian Setzer just added horns to his rock-a-silly band. RCR plays what they
have dubbed gangster-bop. This is not swing either. It is again,
essentially rock-a-silly with horns. The only thing close to swing that he
has played is Nosey Joe, and that is Jump Blues- sung originally by King
Record's Bullmoose Jackson.
Joe Jackon on the other hand plays Jump Blues ("We the Cats Shall Hep Ya" -
orig. Cab Calloway) and Swing, but a little too fast. Never-the-less he is
enjoyable.
You have to admit, most of the neo-swing that is popular (Big Bad Voodoo
Daddy, Royal Crown Revue, Cherry Poppin Daddies, etc.) may be good to you,
but it is not traditional swing. Just listen to the Rockabilly style Bass.
