Dear Colleagues,
As you are figuring out your AGU plans ahead of the July 30th abstract submission deadline, I would encourage those of you working at the intersection of modeling and water resources management to consider submitting to session
H154: Water and Society: Translating new digital solutions and modeling advancements into improved water management and decision making.
Session abstract:
New technologies, such as digital twins, real time data processing, and artificial intelligence, can transform our understanding of water systems. Leveraging these innovations for improved management requires similar advancements in our capability to use the
information that these technologies provide, coupled with an understanding of underlying governance dynamics guiding management decisions. This session invites interdisciplinary submissions at the interface of modeling and management that present advancements,
challenges and opportunities regarding the application of digital twins, physical models, and data driven methods (e.g. AI/ML, etc.) to water management. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
-
Integration of models with risk analysis, planning, and decision support;
-
Case studies of management innovations derived from advanced technologies;
-
Innovative applications for short-term and long-term decision contexts;
-
Integration of human systems and behaviors into water resource models;
-
Communication and visualization techniques to support stakeholder engagement
Conveners:
Julie Shortridge, Virginia Tech
Hannu Martilla, University of Oulu, Finland
Marko Keskinen, Aalto University, Finland
Thank you for considering this session, and I look forward to seeing you all in New Orleans!
