Applying negative keywords not supported

Hello everyone, 
I'm trying to apply a negative keyword list on 2 campaigns (Smart display campaign, one is paused and the other is enabled with "Ended" status), and I'm getting  "This operation is not supported by this campaign".

Could anybody give me a hint of where this could be coming from ?

• Google Ads CID
• Script name 
• In what environment have you run your script– Legacy or New Script Experience? (By toggling on or off the New Script experience button at the upper right corner of the script)
• Screenshots that shows the error
• Shareable link (guide) of the spreadsheet used, if applicable. 

 

Kindly send the requested items via `Reply privately to author` option. If the said option is not available on your end, you may send those through the email alias `googleadsscr...@google.com` instead.

This is Yasmin from the Google Ads scripts team, I can confirm that we've received your email on the requested information.

 

I was able to check this functionality on my end and I have found that the operation is indeed not possible. I can also confirm that this is expected behaviour since it also cannot be done in the UI. With this, allow me to raise a request for this feature to the rest of our team. Please note that I would be unable to provide a definite timeline with regard to its exposure.

 

I would just advise you keep an eye on our Ads Developer Blog in the meantime for updates and new releases.

Hi, 

thx for your answer, my question here is mainly  : why does it fails for some campaigns and not some others, what is the parameter / characteristic that makes the campaign not support this operation ? 

Because not having the possibility to do it is one thing I can deal with, while not knowing how to differenciate between campaign that support the action and those who don't is much more problematic.

Thank you for getting back to us.

I believe the campaign which was not added with a negative keyword list (as per the error) was a smart display campaign; retrieved from the conditions of your selectors. I believe it is not yet possible to add a negative keyword list to this type of campaign, as I had also tested this on my end in the Google Ads UI. With this, I had raised a request for the team to consider exposing this feature to smart display campaigns. Again, kindly note that I would be unable to provide a definite timeline with regard to its exposure.

I would recommend you keep an eye on our Ads Developer Blog for latest updates and future announcements.

Noted ! 

I checked and indeed I only have those 2 specific campaigns that have this particular subtype, so I guess it makes sense that only those two are not working.
