Blank AdType appearing in API reporting so cannot get information on Ads

The issues were

1) We have some times where the same ad_id was returned as TEMPLATE_AD and then we later on get it blank? 

2) For TEMPLATE_ADs we were able to get further information about the ads such as  TemplateAdName shown here https://developers.google.com/adwords/api/docs/appendix/selectorfields?hl=de  and we would also receive useful information  about the file where the images could be seen but with these blank ads we are getting no information. The users say the ads they are creating are no different to the ones in the past so have these new ads that are returning the blank ad_type new?

For 1) we cleared all our data out and do not see this so either this never existed and was an error on our part or has already been fixed but we have no examples of the same ad_id.

For both your issues, can you please reply privately to author the report definition and results for these ads? Please also highlight the ad group and ad IDs that are facing these issues, so I can further investigate these ads.

In one particular adwords accounts we have some ads that are IMAGE_ADS and others with no ad type. For example

AdGroupId = 108737976911
AdId = 453917288878 (blank)

AdId = 453676363641 (IMAGE_AD)

With the image ad we can then use the AdGroupAdService to find out more information and even get a preview of the Ad, but with the blank adType we have no further information.

Hi Leon,

The ad from your report that doesn't return an ad type appears to be a newly made HTML5 ad, which can only be retrieved through reports while using AdWords API. You should be able to get metrics for these ads such as its impressions and costs. If you are running a report through Google Ads API, the ad type will be returned as a DisplayUploadAd.

Will the functionality ever be added to get this information from the Adwords API without using reporting? Is there an idea when Google Ads API will come out of beta as we can switch to that?

Our top priority right now is to get the new Google Ads API ready for general availability. As such, we aren't planning on adding enhancements to the AdWords API, but we will continue to fully support it, and address any bugs as they are found. We cannot give timelines to when Google Ads API will exit beta. Our blog will contain any announcements regarding this.
