Made use of custom columns , good if it could be permanent and quick searchable.

So what exactly would you suggest to be changed/ implemented that would improve using the idea behind the Eisenhower Matrix?

Can you add this to your original post pls?

We like to keep one thread per subject. You choose which one and I will delete the other.

Dan,
Let's keep here, please delete from the discussion section.

simplenuity,

1>  Being custom attribute, columns are not quick searchable , it can be converted to seeded attribute and made quick searchable.
2> As value going to be a single digit number (may be) , smaller text box size will be appropriate.

Yes, it would be quite straightforward to implement this as a plugin view.

I also "play around" with TDL to integrate several methodologies with the GTD approach :)
But so far I was able to cover everything with the default fields:
Category
Priority
Status
Tags
Still far from happy though, as I want it as simple as possible, getting out of the way of actually getting things done :)
With this gem of a software Dan has created it's easy to organize/ shuffle around/ categorize work all day - without getting it done :D

Might be possible to use the Kanban View for this too, using a single custom variable to hold all four quadrants, and 'Fixed' kanban columns so that you can control the column order.

I agree and I see it going next level with all new age plugin views,  there are two ways it is being use, one is personal...most people start with it using it for personal ToDo and move fw to manage small projects ....defaults are good but I really wish for some blank bullets (fields that can be named by user and also there in  quick search bar)

Dan,

it will be interesting to see which direction you decide to take. :-)

General note, this whole thread is awesome. Good suggestion, Amar!
I've seen the Eisenhower Matrix described but I don't recall ever seeing it named. Now going from this thread to other info on it ... Wow, that's cool.

While right now we don't have that specific View, I'd think that simple Priority and Risk values could be used to achieve the same. Just split the two values at +/-5 and that's essentially the quadrant, just without visualization.

Dan, this area of usage is beyond me, I'm not well informed on the topics of Kanban and certainly not this Matrix, but as a developer and a user I'm instinctively feeling that two different views would be better so that fans of one are not impeded with nuances of the other.

Final note: If the plugin interface is enhanced to ensure that all data in ToDoList moves to/from to a custom plugin/view, then we have a lot more options for this sort of thing to be created in the field. The software is improved when you make specific enhancements - the whole platform and everything we can all do with it is enriched with better interfaces, as we'll be able to get the things you want to put in here and a lot more. Of course this comes back to the whole discussion about automation, but we see almost daily examples of how this sort of thing can be used. Sigh, I really need to update and publish the Library. :(

That's my 2 highly devalued USA cents, and my 2 minutes this week to annoy Dan. ;)

Hey Tony,

If you want a nice description I'd recommend "The 7 Habits" of Stephen Covey. Feel free to contact me via private email if you need/want more info.

Actually all it takes are four categories for the four quadrants (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4) and you're good to go. If priority is not used otherwise, of course that field also could cover it by itself.

All that doesn't offer of course is the visual arrangement of the tasks into the four quadrants.

FWIW, I have been using a version of this matix for some time.  I essentially group the priorities - 0-2 = low importance and urgency (don't do), 3-5 = low importance high urgency (delegate), etc...  Then coloured tasks based on priority.  These are the only priorities I use.  In years gone by there was discussion on simplifying the priority structure in TDL, or at least have the option to.
I was looking forward to the Kanban view being able to select the attribute to sort on, as you could then see the quadrants represented as columns.
Not quite viualised as quadrants, but the end result is the same.
Having a view like the Eisenhower matrix would be nicer of course.
